Check Ram.

If you remove the ram I believe you're suppose to have a constant tone...but I do not recall 100% too long since I have done any of that... I could check easily enough..

Do a F5 boot... what is your operating system?
CHecked all the power cords before having a heart attack lol. Checked the RAM, same results as mentioned.

It's not getting to the point where I can do any sort of boot - there's nothing but the fans running in short bursts. No actual startup - so no way to do an F5 boot.

I'm running Windows 7, although I don't think that's a consideration? (I'd love to be wrong if it meant a money-free fix...LOL)

Incidentally stupid autocorrect keeps changing my psu to pus..highly annoying.

Hehe, its a gaming system, everything hogs....LOL Which is why replacing the PSU will be so expensive -- to even get the system to turn on requires at LEAST a 650watt PSU. (More is better...lol)

I don't run Zone Alarm.

650 watts is big even taking PSU’s efficiency into account. 750 will run anything or close to anything on the market today. I know lots of folks who run 1000W but it do not think you need to.

OK so it sounds like you have some experience. Open up the power box... the signs are always obvious for overheating and that is always the start of the failure in those... yo uhave to remove all the connections to get it out. if you are not 100% sure... use masking tape and mark male and female 1/1 2/2 3/3 etc. Then peel back the box and see whats failed or if that is what failed.

Although I do have some experience (I built this computer - with help from the ex-bf, I'll admit, but I did..lol) opening up a PSU is something I've never done - even with your description I'm not sure exactly what you mean I should do.

I remembered doing a voltage check back at the beginning of my school time, in a basic maintenance class - but didn't remember exactly how.(It was a 10 minute segment...lol) So found a page with the instructions for that -- now I need to ask Krystal if her father has a digital multimeter I can borrow to check that, I'm assuming it'll let me know if there's any failures.

Heat isn't an issue; I run Speedfan which lets me know system temps at various points and it runs at appropriate temps - 35-44c for cpu/core/ambient temps, with the gpu running at 58c for light load, 63-65c for a heavy load.(Normal for my video card) Nonetheless I plan on trying to start it up in the morning again; my heat is turned off and it'll probably get down to 60f here overnight. (usually it's at about 70f unless it's hot out)

Thank you so much for brainstorming on this for me TCO - I really appreciate it
