What was A. Crowley like?

moderndayruth

We are having a most amazing discussion in the Thoth subforum (thread's title is 'What else')
and i did a reading on the question "What was A. Crowley like?"

If possible, please read the thread before offering interpretations. Thank you in advance.

Base: Ace of Cups

Body: Tower
(The Path of Peh, The Sixteenth Key, Path color- Scarlet, related sound - natural ; planet - Mars, meaning- mouth;
DOUBLE LETTER: GraceIndignation
ESOTERIC TITLE: The Lord of the Hosts of the Mighty )

The Path of Peh, THE TOWER, Qabbalistically connects Hod (the center of the reasoning
process) with Netzach (the center of the intuition-desire nature ); its the
equilibriating Path of the Personality, related to Mars, and to the North - known traditionally "the place of greatest darkness" (it is said that the Sun never shone in the North of Solomon's Temple. )
Yet we are instructed that Light comes from Darkness, that "gold
cometh from the North," and that "Enlightenment has its origin in the hidden
sources of power which terrify the minds of the ignorant."
Peh is a double letter, meaning that it is one of the "Gateways of the
Soul," with two possible directions of passage. As a word, Peh means mouth -related both the taking of nourishment into the system and to speech.

Its obvious that he was a channel for powerful spiritual energies.
(Just look at the image.)

Mind: 3 of Swords

According to the Dignity , this card can mean either disruption, interruption,
separation, sorrow, tears and (sic) mirth in evil pleasures OR
singing, faithfulness in promises, honesty in money transactions, generosity...

I believe that Air is poorly dignified next to the Earth to the right; on the other side Fire- the Tower to the left - and Air are friendly and active.
A complex one i'd say.

Soul: 8 of Pentacles (Prudence)

Surprise, surprise!
Industrious is one of the traditional meanings that would apply.

Base card: Ace of Cups - one of the most beautiful cards in the deck denoting fertility, productiveness, beauty, pleasure and happiness.

We have all the four elements here, Fire being the dominant one i'd say because its represented by a Trump.
He dabbed at darkest energies maybe - and has transformed them; he was hard-working and prolific author - and obviously a person who had experienced and chanelled some very powerful, if disturbing forces and spirits.

After all this opinion seems about right:
"Aleister Crowley may seem, to the uninitiated, like an unmitigated egomaniac, a charlatan, a mad man, or worse. It can be argued, even by occultists, that this was indeed the case. However as occultist, Crowley remains unparalleled. How many contemporary practitioners can actually claim to have manifested a lasting change on the world. After all, changing the world around you is what magic is all about, and Aleister Crowley did it better than anyone. To say that Crowley was ahead of his time would be an understatement. Aside from the glamour of his "wickedness" which will always have a certain appeal, his greatest gift was perhaps his ability to reshape the theory of magic from a modern psychological standpoint, refashioning it into a tool for the New Aeon, a contribution that has yet to be matched or exceeded.
