So, another stupid question. IF I want to set up internet at the new place, do I have to have a computer there. All I really need is the modem and the wireless router, right? The modem doesn't have to be hooked...uh...never mind.

You hook the modem to what ever it is providing your internet...from there hook modem to wireless router. If you don't want to set a computer up, you need to do it where you are now, to have all the settings for your router though (or if you're already using it, you're fine) since the router settings are generally changed in a browser setting....

OH....So....having the internet at both places for a seemless transition isn't gonna happen? Not unless I move the main PC there, which would be ok, since it's been shut down for a while now. Right? Question...are you using the same internet provider? If so, it's fairly certain they won't leave internet on in one place, and turn it on in the next, unless you want to pay for 2 internets...

In which case there's no need for two routers Plus, routers really aren't cheap, so why have two? Could you use your phone until you know you're gonna be in the new place more than the old...then use the phone in the old place?

Router should be set up just fine, if you're going to use the same one with the same internet provider. If you do get a new one, you'll have to set it up from scratch, which for the most part isn't hard (and I'm guessing you use fairly standard settings anyway -- no special ports to open for this game or that, etc) Plus a new router will come with instructions so even if you can't remember how to access your old router, your new one will be no prob! (Although I can help you access your old router if you need.)

I'm gonna use the same provider, but in order to turn it on at the new place I'm probably gonna need to create a second acct and just shut this one down when I move. I DO have 2 other routers. One is just a wired one that was hooked up here, and so it might still have the settings in place....but not if I create a new acct. CRAP!! The thing is, if I have to be at the condo for the internet hookup....Oh never mind. I don't wanna think anymore!

I think what annoys me so much is that I used to KNOW this stuff!!! And when the Smurf nightmare happened, I just kinda shut down and forgot it all!

Oh no, see, if you have to be there to have it hooked up? The guy that shows up -- HE will fix it for ya! Win/win I was just trying to save you a service call

Maybe PM me the types of routers you have and I can look up info on them in advance, and help you out if you want/need
