The Incidental Tarot
I hope this is an appropriate post and in the appropriate place--it's not really an advertisement, but sharing the news about a new, unpublished deck. The creator of the Incidental Tarot is having an IndieGoGo fundraiser to print and disseminate the deck. This is a gorgeous and unique deck. The minor suits appear to be roses, arrows, quills, and oaks, and several of the majors are different as well. (For example, the Hanged Man is replaced with the Eclipse, which is the small iconic image at the top of the page; it's available at the higher donation levels as a print.) Go to the IndieGoGo page for an explanation of the name and images (in "gallery") of several of the cards: http://www.indiegogo.com/The-Incidental-Tarot IndieGoGo is a site similar to Kickstarter, in that people can use it to fund projects with less risk to the funders and different perk packages are available for different levels of donations, but it allows creators to accept funds even if the goal isn't reached. So I have no personal stake in whether this project gets funded--I'll get the deck I pledged for either way. But I want this deck to be funded because I love it! And it's always good to have a new Tarot deck around, right?

Thanks so much for posting this! I want it, I want it... lol Some of the choices for cards are truly inspired - and she only has a smattering of them posted yet. Also, I hadn't heard of IndieGoGo before. So, cool all around! |

Fabulous deck, but I'm confused. If they don't reach their goal, how will they be able to print the deck for the donation "perk"? __________________ ...But for that fury How should I be rid of the slow death? Seems like unillustrated minors. Anyone has more information about that? |

Stormdancer, they will probably have to go with a smaller print run--less than 100 people have claimed perks that include decks, and the description says that the monetary goal is for 500 decks to be printed. A smaller print run will be more costly per deck but it should be possible. Also, I notice that the custom tuck box is not guaranteed, so maybe if they don't make their goal they won't be able to print that. (I'll be happy with just the deck, personally.) nicole_, I don't have any more information about the minors than is on the funding page (maybe someone else will). |

I love the deck. The cardstock seems to be pretty much the same as all the other decks I have. It's not glossy or anything. It's really quite an interesting deck, art-wise. Each card has the artwork surrounded by a border containing the name, and then a white border around that. The minors are not fully illustrated, but they're a little more interesting than I was expecting; for example, the Six of Arrows has the arrows arranged in a row like a fence with flowers and streamers tied around them, and the Nine of Oaks has a ring of oak leaves and acorns surrounding the trunk of a tree. Instead of Aces, it has Keys. Each minor suit has a King, a Queen, and two other named face cards--Quills has The Alchemist and The Oracle. There are also two extra, unnumbered cards in my deck--Ariadne and The Labyrinth. I don't know if these are cards that go with every deck or if they're just for backers or something. They do have a custom tuck box and it's sturdy, though there seems to be ink smeared inside. That could just be from the signed limited edition plate on mine and it hasn't affected the cards. |

There's info on Ariadne and the Labyrinth cards on the website. Mine is on its way. Last edited by EllieP; 08-04-2012 at 08:02. |
