Talking July 2004: Worldwide Tarot Convention...

Hi all,

This has been in the works for some time, and initially it began as a small social gathering between a few Aeclectic members. After discussion and thought, it has become a possible Tarot Convention, two days long for the convention, with talks, workshops, stalls and readers, etc. All members from Aeclectic welcome, but others interested and not on Aeclectic also more than welcome.

Glastonbury is the perfect place to hold this, since most of the residents there are interested in alternative spirituality, Tarot, the occult, etc.

I think I've found the perfect venue for us, which has a main hall big enough for this kind of convention, aswell as smaller conference rooms for talks, and a cafe serving food (organic and vegan available).

What this thread is about is finding out how many people would be interested in attending this. There is also a possibility of a day before or after the event for a purely Aeclectic social thing and Glastonbury sight-seeing.

We are also looking for people to give talks and workshops on Tarot and closely related subjects, and for readers.

There is a possibility that any profit made not through readers and stalls, but through admission would go towards Aeclectic.

This convention not only would be the only convention of its kind occurring in England for a while, but it will provide Aeclectic with lots of good publicity and would give us all an opportunity to meet each other!

Who would be interested in coming? Any suggestions? Any takers to give a talk?

If you have any questions, you could post them here or PM Major Tom, Umbrae, or I.

Kiama

I have always been wanting to visit my cousin in England

It would really depend on $ for me. I am not sure how much it costs to fly and stay in England. I would definitely consider it. I would like the day before and day after thing very much. If I am going to pay to fly out there, it would be for more than a weekend!

Thanks Kiama!

I'm with Mimers...need to check out the airfare, Hubby wants to come too...

Would love to come and have the opportunity to stay at least a week. Since it is a l-o-n-g ride across the Altantic 2 days are already used up in travel.

So definitly interested in "side trips" before or after.

Any reasonable lodging options also appreciated.

Of course we could all climb in a hot air balloon....Hah

Great for next year!

I'd enjoy any locals from Glastonbury, Chesca Potter and others, giving lectures.

Maybe there's some hidden Greenwood Tarots lurking in Glastonbury.

I am still seriously considering it, but I honestly cannot commit at this time. It would depend on money and a third party, and therefore completely unpredictable for me at this point.

I would LOVE to go. I really WANT to go. I may yet get there.

PLEASE make it during school holidays, or I can't come. The sooner we have dates the better so I can plan my summer holidays with that in mind.

Any thoughts about costs? How much should I be saving up?

This is so exciting!

Dates are still shakey, but July 23rd-25th has been thrown around a couple of times... Possibly see if we can grab a day before that and add it on. Two days for the convention, one for the socialising.

I am hoping to get in touch with Tarot deck creators from in and around Glastonbury: Poppy Palin, creator of the Wild Spirit Tarot, Lisa Tenzin Dolma, creator of Glastonbury Tarot... I'm also thinking about getting in touch with Caitlin Matthews (Celtic Wisdom Tarot)... Got a big list in front of me of names and places.

I'm not sure total cost yet, though the venue is £300 per day. *Gasp* Though charging a small entry fee should be able to pay that off quickly.

There are loads of places to stay in Glastonbury, the cheapest option being the Backpacker's Hotel: £10 per person per night for a dorm room (sleeps 6 people). £20 per room per night for a double room (double bed, sleeps 2 people) or £27 for double en-suite room (double bed, bathroom, sleeps 2.)
