Cards that would signify personality disorders and such
Im wondering since I have this friend who is a real talent in finding boyfriends that are real gems is there any way to see somebodys character features that arent so great. I mean which cards would represent some kind of beahviour thats troubling and in which place would they be if Im doing for example the celtic cross spread. My guess is The devil card if its on the 3rd place (subconcious influence) or the 7th place (external influences) could mean that the one of the persons involved has some problem with excessive behaviour, wheter its drinking or something else. Are there some other general cards that are signs of trouble? i dont know if I explained myself well :0( |

ALL of the cards can show unpleasant aspects of someone's personality. They all have positive and negative meanings. In my opinion, unless you are educated about 'personality disorders' (i.e., you have studied psychology at university level), you shouldn't be looking for such things in the cards - or people, cards aside. Even then, it's a bit iffy. The field of psychology itself is filled with problems.... I'm not a fan of the Celtic Cross spread. It is not useful for everything and is often more confusing than helpful. It would be more direct and efficient to just ask about the negative aspects of a person's personality, or behavior, and draw a card/some cards. (That is, make up your own spread, or just ask the question in a straightforward, brief way.) Do a reading specifically about that, if that is what you want to know. Hope that helps.

These examples are just more of really, nothing i am definitely sure about. If a 9xSwords appeared in 8th position (environment , your description or that of someone around you) i'd take it to indicate a very paranoid person. If a 10xSwords appeared there oh they'd be very mean and depressing, always putting you down. I'd run from a devil in that spot!-they'd take a weird pleasure in hurting people. i don't know if i've answered that correctly, i don't know much in psychology and therefore am not well-versed in the appropriate names of personality disorders. |

A couple of cards that came to mind as I read your post were the Chariot and Strength. In certain positions in a given reading they could represent a person who is controlling by nature. Kings, Queens and Knights can have negative aspects which relate to how they interact with people close to them. As Mellifluous said, I am not a fan of the Celtic Cross either. It is a very complex spread with a lot of potentially confusing interactions between the cards. Not to mention that, depending on which version of it you're using (ie, which book or other source you learned it from) the very position meanings can be confusing which then can cause a great deal of confusion regarding the interpretations of the cards. Some few years ago I had posted a Tarot spread designed to delve into a co-dependent relationship. That thread is here; http://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?t=9739 - if you scroll down, you'll find a slight modification from my original idea. While the original intent was to delve into a co-dependent relationship between an adult and their parent, it could be modified very easily to look at other relationships. In any case, I would say that, while it may be of some help to look at the current partner of your friend, it may not be enough. If your friend is coming to you for these readings, you may want to suggest doing a reading on why they keep getting into these relationships. There may be some strong past influences there. On the other hand, if your friend is NOT coming to you for these readings, I would suggest treading lightly - she (or he) may become rather irritated with you for doing them without their permission. If your friend is open to it, you may want to suggest such a reading ... Also, again as Mellifluous suggested, trying to diagnose an actual "personality disorder" may not necessarily be the right way to think of this. Rather, what you may want to do is look for certain behaviors or traits that you can discuss with your friend. For instance, does the person have a great deal of unresolved anger? Do they tend towards jealousy? That sort of thing. A person may tend towards violent outbursts due to a variety of diagnosable "disorders" (including some physical maladies, such as a tumor or lesion in the brain) ... but you may still be able to say that they have violent tendencies without saying they're sociopathic. I have found that one of the hardest things to tell a person is that someone they are "interested in" is not a good choice. You can tell them what you interpret from the cards, and even what you have observed yourself, but ultimately your friend will have to decide for herself how to proceed. __________________ "A famous person once said; 'you can fool all of the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time' ... but, as I (an even more famous person) say; 'if you don't teach them to read, you can fool them whenever you like!'" personality dissorders are... well, I prefer to leave that to a specialist but what we can all see are unhealthy attitudes or bad aspects we may not be able to discern wheter somebody has a phobia , but we can see if he is very scared of x , I dont know if he is paranoid , but I can see if he worries too much , maybe I wont find out if has Oedipus complex but we can tell if he has a strange or dependant relationship to his mother , etc. __________________ just because it is all in your head , it doesnt mean it's not true |

One can read about personality disorders on many websites online that list many personality traits of how people with a certain personality disorder acts and behaves, and come out very educated in spotting most people in your life (family, friends or stranger) to know if they have a personality disorder or not. It's not hard science, or difficult to understand. |

However, to be honest here, your friend picks these types of men, because she has issues herself. Like attract like. Emotionally and mentally healthy people avoid the emotionally and mentally unhealthy like a plague. Maybe she has low self-esteem, and yes that is a form of personality disorder. And usually psycho, dominating, narcissistic, sadistic, controlling disorder types like to pick passive, doormat, masochistic, low self-esteem people to crap all over. |

Well basically thats what I meant I didnt mean if you could see in the cards if somebody has for exmple multiple personality disorder, but wanted to ask if there are cards or combination of cards that could make you think this is a person who could be prone to some types of behaviour that you should run away from. To me a boy/girl who is prone to lying, cheating (Im throwing examples) also has a disorder of some kind, if its a pattern of behaviour. So yey negative aspects thats what I was thinking. Tnx! |
