Often the Ace of Swords represents for me, focusing on the truth of the situation. Dont' base anything on assumptions. Look at the facts. Don't let emotions interfere in this thought process.

The fact of the situation is - you have to work with this person. That is the only fact so far. You say:

Examine the facts. Find out what the facts are and base your decision on that and not assumptions.

OK, no contract necessary - but you broaden that sort of meaning to apply to your specific situation. So you don't have 'understandings', you very pointedly ask something like -'exactly what do you mean?' and 'why?' and 'who is responsible for that happening?', when there is a 3rd party present, and until you are satisfied that your back is covered. In organisations group emails in the interests of keeping everyone informed and where everyone reads the conversation are useful for this.

It could help to have a look at Feng Shui tips about having your back protected.
