Sun, Ten of Cups - ill/well-dignified

I`ve just read here about a 3 cards spread about a relationship with Sun, Ten of Cups and Five of Wands. Obviously the Sun and 10 Cups are ill dignified when we consider ED. I wonder though what would make them well dignified, what makes this combo to predict a good relationship with a happy future as they both show as themselves? Maybe a Sword or a Pentacle card before, after or between them? They both have such a nice, shinny, happy energy as themselves and when they meet they fight each other so I wonder what can make them support each other.

Well, that really depends on how you treat the elemental interactions. "Traditional" Golden Dawn interpretations say that fire and water are enemies and weaken each other. While fire can burn away water and water can put out fire, there is a third interaction - fire and water together make steam. So if you look at the two cards from that respect, they can strengthen each other.

If you keep with "traditional" interpretations, there's no card that can be added to make the fire/water interaction stronger or well-dignified. Adding a second fire negates the water, adding a second water negates the fire, adding an air strengthens the fire over the water and adding an earth strengthens the water over the fire.

While there may be circumstances where I'd read that particular fire/water combination as well-dignified, my first thought is that someone's trying too hard to make things seem like they're going well when they really aren't. Like the person who knows their significant other is cheating on them, but refuses to acknowledge it, insisting (to both themselves and to everyone else) that everything is fine. Or the eternal optimist who refuses to acknowledge the negative.

HTH,
Rodney

First, I totally agree with everything Rodney said here and would read these cards in a similar fashion. However, going just a baby step further with regard to the statement above, it may also signify that what is going on may be quick to "burn off" and dissipate (like steam.) So, if someone is being unfaithful here--or simply overly flirtatious with others--it might not be the kind of unfaithful that leads to him leaving her for the other person, but one that comes and goes quickly. (Also with the Five of Wands, it is more of a flirtation with infidelity than something much heavier...whether or not that helps.) And, in that vein, it may be something that could essentially strengthen the primary relationship--for instance as a reminder to keep the relationship sizzling instead of allowing it to get old and boring.

Thank you too, Starry. The spread I was reading about in an older post here on AF involved also 5 wands indeed. It was about a relationship with Sun and Ten of Cups which ended and I was wondering if always those two cards were of bad omen about a relationship. Now, you two guys clarified me. And yes, it helped.
