This is a passage from my book, although it does not address the Seven of Swords Reversed, directly. "Some Alternative Views of the Seven of Swords. This card functions on several different levels, some of which I’m sure Waite never foresaw. Once again, we have figures on different planes: the large central figure of the thief, and the smaller figures (in most decks) of the soldiers themselves. Are you the man with the swords or the men in the tents? Are you being warned of a theft that is about to happen to you, or are you about to commit a crime, or have you already committed one? This could include everything from grand theft auto to white collar crime—“downsized” people who remove the contents of their cubicle and desk whether the objects belong to them or not. Then again, the Querent might be neither—but merely an observer to the actions in this card. Or the Querent might be a third party to illegal happenings: maybe he or she is allowing a bad situation to exist; turning a deaf ear or blind eye to a situation, thinking that is preferable to “getting involved”; or he or she might be involved as the “lookout.” On a personal level, I have seen this card come up many times for people who are thinking of changing jobs. They are actively looking for a new situation. Here, the “theft” is not the contents of their desks, but something intangible–job skills or job training--that they are taking with them. Thanks for that insight
That's great, Tarotbear. I was struggling with this interpetation and the job change/ job skills idea makes some sense in the Outcome position, especially with the other positive cards I was getting. Thank you so much. |

Bear's personal opinion and mine are very similar. I see the R7S as frustrations that are on the very edge of a breakthrough. I can see how this would easily suggest a change for the better in jobs. __________________ Don't ask a diviner unless you are ready for the answer. --Brad |

I have a somewhat broader set of meanings of the Seven of Swords, in which it can refer to theft or deceit, but can also have a more positive meaning, along the lines of "living by your wits." In the RWS we see a figure who seems to have taken the swords from the camp, and it certainly seems to be theft, or some kind of stealthy trickery. But what if he's not so much a thief as a clever antihero who has thwarted an attack by taking his enemy's weapons? This is the sort of thing we cheer for all the time in action movies. So, I do consider the possibility that the Seven of Swords means something like: Is there a way that you can work around the problem, using your wits and wiles to avoid a confrontation? This could apply in some employment situations. In the example above, maybe it would advise that you quietly line up your next job before letting your employer know. It's a little tricky, but it serves your interests. One other thing that I see in the Seven of Swords--the guy carrying the swords doesn't have good control over them and is in danger of getting cut by them. So, I take it as a warning that being too clever can backfire on you--this path is not without risks. Since you have been getting this card reversed, it may mean that a more straightforward path is indicated. On the other hand, if you don't see yourself as the figure in the foreground, I would take it as a warning that someone might be about to pull something on you. In the employment realm I would certainly think about my job security and any threats to it. |

A reversed card in the Outcome position of a job spread... I would go straight to advice and say... "learn from your mistakes" because there is an element of "returning to the scene of the crime" when this card is upside down... so, go back -think back- to any mistakes you've made in this situation and correct them. __________________ Obi-Wan Kenobi: But Master Yoda says I should be mindful of the future. Seven of Swords reversed has come up for me as finding help, unexpected good news. As employment question you may find someone who has connections, or you will get a job that you didn't expect to get. |
