Herbal Tarot - V - High Priest - Sage

You can see the major arcana cards in Constellation 5.

Description: The High Priest is standing between two pillars, one light and one dark, holding an ankh in his right hand. A large sage plant is growing in front of the High Priest.

Significant Details: The ankh is an ancient symbol of eternal life. The sage is symbolizing immortality. The pillars represent the pillars in the Tree of Life.

Keywords: Conformity, Tradition, Institution, Belief system, Hierarchy

Medicinal Uses: : “One of the best remedies for laryngitis, tonsillitis and sore throats.” Culpepper’s Color Herbal. “Sage was so highly esteemed that by the 10th century it had acquired the reputation of conferring immortality, an exaggerated claim that persisted well into the 17th century.” American Nature Guides Herbs by Anna Kruger.

My Interpretation: This is a time of meditating and reevaluating your beliefs.

Number Significance: The High Priest is in Constellation 5 with the XIV Temperance and the Five's. Testing, Counseling, Training, Assimilating and Integrating, Healing, Guidance, Bridging, Translating, Interpreting and Channeling, Arbitrating

Thoughts/Points to Ponder: The ankh is an ancient egyptian symbol of immortality, and to the people of the 10th century, the sage plant also represented immortality. The pillars represent the Tree of Life, thereby connecting the ankh and sage to the High Priest and beliefs in immortality.
