So far, the Post Modernyness of the the PoMo is quite interesting. I wish the type in the book was a bit larger, though. My eyes are getting worse. It is a clever deck - many of the scenes are re-imagings of famous Post Modern art. Brian Williams was a genius with an incredible sense of humour and it really shows in this deck. The cards are REALLY big! And there isn't alot of detail. With my tired old eyes, this is a relief! |

I'm pretty late joining the group but I have only just got internet in the new house. The move has gone well although most of my decks are still boxed up poor things! This week I will be working with the Tarot of the Silicon Dawn. Very excited as I love this deck so, so much. Yippee! Hope everyone is enjoying their decks

Silicon Dawn is a great deck!Nearly half-way through with the Soprafino and I'm enjoying the non-scenic pips workout. They don't have quite as many flourishes as some other decks. Maybe next week I'll try the Vachetta/Tarot of the Master. |

Oo oo, I want to do that one next week too! It's been sitting on the dresser while I bond with the Universal Fantasy. |

All day yesterday I buried my nose in the historical research and the other Marseilles forums in order to find, if anyone here actually knows some of the stories and allegories that went with the Soprafino - or any other historical cards way back when they were used. It is all very interesting to read all the theories about what the deck creators put on each card and all the assumptions of what it may have meant, but the simple folk, that then eventually got a deck into their hands and used it, waaay back in the days, had a quite different take on the imagery as the ones intended or what we assume about that now. Many readers that read for money - or chickens or firewood, that used any kind of cards, were illiterate and they learned the meanings not from a book - or a forum of researchers as we do here today. They sat at the foot of experienced readers and learned to memorize the stories that went with each card. Just as I sat together with one of my cousins - form my mother's clan - and she leaved through one card after the other and told them to me. They had VERY little to do with what I now see written up in the forums. Last time I saw Gran's deck I was about 9. I remember the frayed dog-eared stained deck, and when we took it out of its equally stained wine red silk covered wooden box..... I wish I had it still... What a shame, that I only remember bits and pieces of all the stories.....

Quite the difference to the curt and to-the-point decks with non-scenic pips I used the last two weeks...But the deck is a fun challenge to read because it's so different from any RWS/Thoth model. My takes were mostly far away from what the LWB said, too. Now I'm curious to see if any of what I saw actually makes sense to the person I read for... Quote:
But isn't it the same today and many of our actual interpretations of a card are vastly different from what the creator of the deck intended us to see? More so if we read from the images and not from any accompanying book. And then there's oral vs. written tradition and the problem of even getting access to the former. In a way, I consider forums like AT a mix between written and oral tradition because most of us don't write in an academic/scholarly/"objective" kind of way but mostly tell stories of our experiences. Since we can't all come over to your house and look at the cards together with you, I'm very glad you're typing out your stories for us to read! |

the Fey tarot
I have fond memories of this deck from a couple of years ago when I first bought it. There is a bittersweet quality about the fey and their world particularly in the swords suit. This time round I have not been able to make the same connection between me and the deck and there is a distinct 'emptiness' - although I am not sure why. It reads perfectly well and I have had great feedback from the exchanges but something is missing...perhaps it is just me. Elendil |
