It's not a good idea for a bird and any other type of pet to share a meal..or toys..or anything, really. See, mammals naturally have gram-negative bacteria in their bodies (and saliva) and birds don't. So, sharing something that's been in the mouth of a mammal with a bird is bad for their health...and can even kill them, if not treated in time. (This includes human "kisses". Leading cause of death in pet birds is a kiss their owners didn't realize was dangerous, then not recognizing the signs of illness.)

Wow. My parakeet used to eat out of dad's mouth. I think he did it to gross mom out. CHew a big mouthful, open wide and Spotty - from dad's shoulder - would reach out and peck away at his offering.

How long did he live? Unfortunately, parakeets rarely live more than a couple years...but can live 12-20 yrs given a chance
