The vet has changed heartworm preventative again.

Now, she is pushing Trifexis. We had Sentinel for the last few years and now this stuff. Costs more. Has possibility of side effects?!

Yira, emmsma...dog folk....any experience with this stuff???

All heartworm has possibility of side effects - face it, all worming materials are a poison! Does your vet state a specific reason why move to the more expensive one?

They aren't carrying Sentinel anymore. We have had no problems with Sentinel. Sentinel had some production issues and so they had to get a different brand in. And then they decided to stay with the Trifexis.

I have to give Libby heartworm preventative - it is a contract requirement.

I've never heard of Trifexis.

Will they be discontinuing Sentinel at your practice? Will they write you a script for it? I don't like jumping on every new product until its been out awhile and we know what problems it will cause.

I didn't like that our clinic jumped on the injectable heart worm med. It got pulled from the market really fast because of problems with it. and then everyone had to switch back.

It is by Elanco and has been out since Feb. 2011. Not very long!!!


First, we had Revolution - and that was fine. Then the Sentinel and they had no problems with it. Now change again! I don't like using all this stuff.

If I get a script for Sentinel, then where else can I buy it??
