New here!
Hi everyone - I thought I'd introduce myself. I'm a nearly 40 year old wife and mother, and I'm here because I am returning to tarot. Back in the late 90s, before my kids were born, I was walking through one of those little stores in the mall that sold gemstones and incense, and I came across a deck of tarot cards that just called to me. Really, I went to that store to look at them several times before buying them. See, I grew up in a fundamentalist, Southern Baptist home, and even then in my 20s, grown and married, I believed what I had been told. I believed that tarot cards were evil. No, I believed that they were EVIL. I'm sure some of you understand. But anyway, I bought them because they just called to me. It was the Hanson-Roberts deck. I learned some basics from the book that came with the cards. I did some spreads. I began to learn to read. Then I threw them away because, as I said, they were EVIL. Well, I'm in a totally different place now. I still believe in God. I am still a follower of Christ, but I usually don't call myself a Christian because I want to distance myself from the close-minded conservative mindset that one usually thinks of when one thinks of Christian. Anyway, I do believe in God. I do read the Bible. I do not believe something to be true because some sweaty fat white guy in a 3 piece suit and holding a 50 pound Bible tells me to believe it. I believe what my mind, my heart, and my soul tells me. And I have been feeling very strongly a call to return to the tarot, in particular the Hanson-Roberts deck. If I were artistic at all and could draw my own deck, it would look like that deck. Nothing could suit me more perfectly, and I am anxiously awaiting my cards to arrive next week. I don't know why I am feeling called to return to the tarot, but I have never been one to back away from what my heart leads me to do. So that's me, nearly 40, a housewife and mother, and eagerly waiting to see what the cards are going to tell me. |

Welcome GeekyMomma! Very glad to have you here and glad that you have found your way back to tarot. It's such a wonderful tool and I hope that you feel a connection to them as I do. I haven't worked with the Hanson-Roberts deck but you are on the right track with choosing a deck that you resonate with. __________________ I once played poker with tarot cards. Hi GeekyMomma and welcome to Aeclectic Tarot I know youŽll find lots of like minded people here. There are many Christians who are wrestling with those same questions and feelings. There are many threads where these things have been discussed.Oh, and Hanson Roberts is a lovely deck. Enjoy! |

Welcome to Aecletic! I, too, grew up in a Southern Baptist home . . . though now I am no longer a Christian (I'm a Goddess Worshipper these days). Even though I have a huge tarot collection (over 600 decks . . . and growing), my blood relations still have no idea that I'm into tarot. I don't want to hear "the tarot is of the devil speech" from them, you know? |

Hello and welcome - glad you have realized that cards can't be evil. Only people can be evil (and some people don't even believe in that possibility!) This forum is a warm, friendly, accepting place to learn about tarot and other things. Glad you are here, hope to see a lot of you! |
