I think that uppermost list pretty much shows the essential ones. I have recently had an upsurge of love for John Matthews' Shaman's Oracle. LOVE that deck. I know I'm biased but the only ones for me that feel shamanic - as in the sense that you really are witnessing some journeying - are the Greenwood and the Ironwing. These for me are Shamanic decks par excellence. I'm not a shaman myself but I do feel like I witness something strange and powerful with these two decks. Something bigger than the urge to design a deck and sell it. (nobody has mentioned the LoS Shaman's Tarot...) |

what would be your criteria for saying a deck is connecting the shaman work, or shamanism? I so don't understand the question. Thanks! |

Surely any deck would assist in travel, if you were called to that type of work? It truly is that "it's not what you've got, it's what you do with it that counts" I had a discussion with an AT member about this at a recent meet-up - it's something you can be guided on, and given pointers on, but if you don't have it in you to do this work, then no amount of courses or decks 'makes you' gifted, does it? So any deck a shaman uses is a shamanic deck I think. __________________ Deep in the green; call loudly in the woods if you want me! |

The Merlin Tarot encourages exploration to local waterway and animal
wildlife on the natural world wherever you may be..and the odd keyword minors are very open. I had the Dreampower for a bit, felt it was similar to help the person walk from their inner self to the oiter natural worlds around them. If people want a framework from book and cards, I could see how the above list helps open one up with more assurance of guidance to their meditative ideas. But I really thought the older primal practices were rhythmic and physically away from the use of cards. It is just my curioius thought... but on reflection, I could see how one as a sole practioner would like to have and use book and cards for starters. I would suggest musical or rhythmic items to help pace oneself. __________________ Still, cerulean surges... where, as sunset lingers Eve with golden fingers... Hector A. I think the Celtic Dragon Tarot has light shamanistic vibes. The dragons are in another realm which can be crossed sometimes. People has the Veil around them on the cards when th dragons and people interact. __________________ Being in love with the Tarot of Vampyres El Desdichado (by Nerval) Je suis le ténébreux, - le veuf, - l'inconsolé, Le Prince d'Aquitaine à la tour abolie: Ma seule étoile est morte, - et mon luth constellé Porte le soleil noir de la Mélancolie. |

![]() Definitely cards are not the only medium- actually I use drumming and other modes for shamanic work, and prefer runes to cards. And true- any deck a shaman uses can be a shaman's deck. But that doesn't make them all equal. There are some decks that work well, and some that don't. I guess what I was hoping for was a list-type theme for decks, similar to what AT lists. If you had the theme "Shamanic decks" listed- what would you place there? There are not many decks that were made specifically to be shamanic decks- so that is why I listed the shamanic "feel" category- to cover those decks that work well. My goal was to have a list (on the first post)- so that someone who was interested in looking for decks of this nature could find some ideas in one quick place. Hope that helps! And I love the suggestions and cannot wait to hear more!

I find the Haindl has a really shamanic feel, too: lots of cave art and earthiness. __________________ Life is a holy moment, a brief flash of sentience in the sacred abyss. |
