is a large A4 one. the others are a little bigger than deck size. Easy to transport to the café for note-taking with bagged deck!Apologies, but the one on the right isn't paperblanks (I thought it was.) Nor does it have a brand. No sign of a brand anywhere. It came shrink wrapped with a sticker but now there's no way of finding who produced it. Sorry. It's a bit arabic. That's why I liked the style. Like moorish tiles... |

How funny that after seeing this thread and coveting one of these journals, I walked into a shop that had them! Didn't get one though, because that shop also had quite a nice selection of decks. But I'll be back. Those journals are lovely.

The late great Borders had a stationery area where they had a lot of journals in different styles and sizes, many of them with magnetic clasps. I always wanted a few but never could decide on which ones. I haven't checked any other bookstores (like Barnes & Noble) to see if they carry them. I did get a couple of small ones from other places, with lined paper inside, but I used them for other things than Tarot. For Tarot, I'm using ordinary spiral notebooks. But I can definitely see where a small portable journal would be a good idea, and a decorative one would just make it that much more tempting. No, I'm not bothered about "messing up" the pages. I'm quite used to crossing things out and interpolating lines and scribbling in margins. It doesn't have to be perfect; it just has to be mine.

Paperblanks has been my favorite journal maker for a few years now. ![]() I love that all their journals - even the teeny ones - have a pocket in the back, a ribbon marker, and a nice clasp/closure element. The paper itself is also awesome to write on, and obviously the covers are gorgeous. About a month ago, I went to this little store I'd never been in before, because Borders is gone and Barnes and Noble is gone, and I was wondering where I could possibly buy decks now (aside from online and waiting to get them in the mail. You know. In an emergency. ). I googled about it, found this place, and took a walk over there, a neighborhood or two away. Not only did they have a very respectable selection of decks (each with a thief-proof display copy. Ha! Eat that, Borders!), they had the largest blank journal section I've seen in some years - and more than half of it was Paperblanks journals. And they seemed to be playing the soundtrack from [i]Sense and Sensibility[i] while I was there. lol It was pure heaven, I tell ya! Enjoy your new journal! Hope you've found your favorite sort of pen as well!

This is the one I got, the Grande version: http://www.paperblanks.com/us/en/col...lection_id=290 That link doesn't do a very good job of visually showing the difference in the three sizes... but it's almost a little too big :-) I decided that was better than Midi, which is too small. OMG I want this one! http://www.paperblanks.com/us/en/col...lection_id=319 Last edited by EoMg; 02-05-2012 at 06:21. |

My favorite sort of pen is my old Waterman cartridge pen from 1960. I must still have it somewhere but I haven't been able to get refills for it for the past 40 years. ![]() Failing that, I'll take a few of those newfangled disposable "fountain" pens. I no longer have the patience for an actual fountain pen, or worse yet a quill. But I would loooove one of those fancy journals...

Well, I saw the paperblanks display at Whole Foods and couldn't help myself. Picked up the Black Morrocan one for my Etteilla studies. I use a moleskine for my daily draws/weekly notes as well as a catch-all for everything else: writing, life, etc, but I wanted something special for those decks. As for pens, I am obsessed with the UniBall Vision Needle Mico. They are cheap, dry quickly, and write beautifully. I use them for all my writing. |

What I like best and what I use are different things. I like the fiberpoint pens that flow almost like fountain pens, but unfortunately they often bleed through the page on ordinary notebook paper. What I use are common stick ballpoints; some brands have a better ink flow than others. These journals being featured here: do they have notebook-type paper, or thick paper like good stationery? That more than anything else would determine what kind of pen I'd use. Or are they like copy paper (sort of a mid-grade)? |

What's also cool about some - not all - of the Paperblanks journals is that the page edges also have patterns, like so. ![]() The paper's thicker than regular notebook paper, but it's been so long since I've actually bought stationery... Hmm. I'm going to say, mid-grade. I've got some 20 lb. paper here and I'd say it's about the same. Maybe a little thicker. If you ever see one in a store, pick it up and investigate it thoroughly. lol You won't want to leave it behind. |
