On the topic of strange decks, one that appeals to me lately is the Black Fantasy Tarot, a small black and white deck drawn in ball point pen and largely consisting of portraits of animals, animal hybrids and made-up animals. For example the Wheel card is a ferret/bat surrounded by the hexagrams from the Book of Changes. The imagery is sparse but very expressive. I'm drawn to simpler imagery lately and this one has simple pictures that manage to convey more complex ideas and emotions. Last edited by Myrrha; 06-05-2012 at 04:09. |

Thanks to this thread I got curious about the Silicone Dawn and am now completely fascinated by it....it seems like lately a deck has to be distinctly strange for me to be really interested in it...ATF has led me around yet another unexpected corner. Is this happening to anyone else? __________________ " 'Tis an ill wind that blows no minds" Raven Kaldera * "I am NEVER off-topic" * ~Lillie~ |

I love that deck . I trimmed mine - to the bone - and it's just gorgeous. And yep - all of the cards tend to the unusual. I think that's why I like it - there's a lot of room for self expression given. __________________ When I was a child/I caught a fleeting glimpse/Out of the corner of my eye La ilaha illa Allah |

Another tempting but weird, unusal and completely unreadable deck; the Tapestry tarot. Same story; had one, traded it away and am now years later eyeing it up again. Sigh. |

I did have a taker...and then I backed out of the deal, just couldn't bear to part with the wretched thing. I have no idea why....it is truly hideous. I think I felt sorry for it. Or perhaps some compassion for the soon to be proud owner? I have no explanation for my insanity!

The Golden Dawn Enochian Skrying Tarot. I like the images, and the overall look is futuristic, but it seems to be more about Enochian magick and rituals, and i'm not into any of that. Interesting that the cards are double sided, but this looks like a very complicated system. |

'Mona Lisa' by Lo Scarabeo. I like the colouring and cool backs, but I dunno the theme is just odd. It looks like a lovely deck though. They were going to do a real companion book for the mona lisa, with a storyline and everything, but for some reason didn't. Which leaves the deck pretty impenetrable for me. And it looked so interesting, too. On it's own, it's not really quite the right kind of strange enough for me. Pity. It had potential. __________________ " 'Tis an ill wind that blows no minds" Raven Kaldera * "I am NEVER off-topic" * ~Lillie~ |
