I would always read for you tarotbear, anytime (:

But for myself, there are times I can, when I am calm, but I mostly don't. The greatest benifit Tarot gives me is the study itself, the spiritual journey, so I really don't feel cheated out of anything, or learning just for others. Tarot also gives you a kind of "Tarot vision" meaning learning to recognize patterns in life just as you would in a reading. I'm not saying I notice rustling leaves on trees and foresee my day (that kind of paranoia and supersticious pedantry leads to madness) but that there are Tarot readings everywhere, all around us, all the time. The cards are merely a focused tool to observe life, based on life.

I got into tarot to read for myself and only started reading for others because I enjoyed doing it so much I needed more sitters! So, some people can and do read for themselves and find it very helpful.

I don't do fortune telling for anyone, including myself. However, if I do a reading for myself, I minimize the imaginative/intuitive aspect of reading, and go more or less according to the Golden Dawn interpretations. I think the key to reading for oneself is to be as objective as possible. Intuitive/imaginative readings are too likely to be influenced by one's hopes and fears.

Hi Narwhallove, if i'm really really stuck, I go to the iching, and I absolutely LOVE the Ifate.com Iching app.

Iching is an amazing resource. If you haven't tried it, I would recommend it. It's probably not for the smaller, mundane stuff though. I think it's meant to be used with more serious inquiries. I find it to be incredibly accurate. Hope that helps!

i found recently after great advice from this forum that meditation before i read is a good way of relaxing the mind, i just sit for a few minutes and ask for guidance from my higher self. It usually works for me. remember though we often look for the answers we want in cards and when we dont find them we presume its a bad reading.

I think it is pretty easy to read for myself.

I know myself pretty well.

I like reading for others too although I am a bit shy about it.

Hi.... I know this can be on many readers thoughts.....

Am I being objective when i read for myself? Am I being honest with who I am?

I normally write the qestion down eg.... What do I need to work on Today?

Choose three cards..... write One key word or sentence per card.....

then meditate on each card to see if I have missed something......

Don't waffle too much on each card.. just one key word or sentence.. no more.....then run the three cards together in one sentence... three keywords......

this is just a start.....even when i do more cards eg 10 cards for a reading for myself... I glance at the cards and give myself one overall sentence... DO not over analyse the cards... MY first thoughts......usually work for me......anything else starts to bring about what i want not what I need......

hope this helps on some level...

...... And for everybody else I do it's spot on so I guess you can't read for yourself right???????
First of all whether or not there are lots of threads or not on it, you should have the right to ask whatever you want and chat about it and have anyone who wants to asnwer answer. I always feel like we are failing as a community when people feel that they need to apogise. So sorry you felt that way.

Next, ...some people can read for themselves and some can't. I peronally have never had any trouble with it. I have always read for myself. My first 6 or 7 months I read only for myeslf. It was that long before I even tried to read for anyone else.

I think the issue is just what you said. It's a matter of what you want to hear. And that, to me, comes from how you view Tarot and how it works.

It's a matter of seeing that the best answer the cards could ever give you is simply the truth. That if they tell you just pretty happy things and never anything else, they are causing you harm.

The way I see it, when you ask the cards a question, you are talking about real situations that surround what you asked. its a matter of understanding this. These situations are real, they are there whether you do a reading or not.

Think of it this way, if there were something you don't want coming towards you, do you want to hear it or not? The truth is that IF you know it is coming you can take the steps to avoid it. If you don't know it is coming then you do not change paths and BAM it hits you.

The future very much CAN be changed, but only if we know what is coming. So that is what it is, That is my attitude.

EG (extreme example ....but) if you were going to go on a trip and the bus you would have taken woudl have had an accident...and you ask the cards how the trip will go, do you really want the cards to tell you everything wikll be wondeerful in which case you proceed as normL, or do you want them to tell you there would be a bus accident. And then you go a few days latter and all is fine and you avbid being involved in that?

SO that is my view on that, and how I read for myself. There is no discrepancy betwen what I want to hear nd the truth, because all I want from my cards is that they tell me truth. The cards just refelct the situation, If something is wrong and they dont tell me, i will find out soon enough anyway when the problem manifests. But only if you know beforehand can you change paths and avoid it.

So that is how it works for me.

Babs
