I think the seller may have raised the reserve after hearing from truelighth ? Fair enough ! I would have too. __________________ ~ ~ I probably shouldn't be here. These *hush hush* secretly stipulated reserves annoy me. If you know what it's worth, just sell it for what it's worth. Or at least, let people know that you know what it's worth so that they can know too. |

Of course I don't hate you... ![]() But why don't people just put it out there with the "secret reserve" as a starting price and be done with it? |

Are you familiar with traditions the art world? Secret reserve is an old and very common practice in auctions for art and other cultural items. "No reserve," unusual. Last edited by Debra; 28-05-2012 at 10:13. |

What she said. On occasion I MIGHT have decided to sell to the top bidder - but I can then decide for my own self. It IS the norm, Leffy - in ALL the best auction houses.... __________________ ~ ~ I probably shouldn't be here. It is - but I would bet they can do better. There was another one recently that did. And there have been a few things I have sold with a reserve that I would rather have kept than let them go low... __________________ ~ ~ I probably shouldn't be here. Secret reserves are all about enticing people to bid. It's a way to "get people in the door." It's a subtle form of manipulation that mainly benefits the seller. Personally I'd never bid on an auction with a reserve. But I don't have more cash than I know what to do with. I guess that's why I'm more of a "buy it now" type.
