The Lovers
This card show the same background as seen in the Fool, The Sun has risen above the hills and brightly shining. There are rolling hills and on a small mound a tall old bare leafed oak tree showing the sign it is the season of Autumn in the meadow. Built in one of the hills sides, behind the tree, is a hobbit home called Bag-End. A small chimney stack rises from the roof, through the hill's dirt and grass. A dim light shines from it's small entry window beside the front door, a path leads away from the door.
Belladonna stand just off the path, wearing a white and blue dress, and little brown shoes. Her hands are lightly clasping, above her hands is a heart neckless that she wears, given to her by Bungo. Her hair has two long braids. She is not looking at Bungo, she is gazing at something behind the tree, which is behind Bungo, as he sits on a rock, smoking his pipe. She has a warm smile on her face, showing love, compassion, adorement.
Bungo sits with a joyous smile on his face, as he gazes down at the ground. He is wearing a white shirt with 3 black buttons, and a brown vest with 3 gold buttons. His posture is slightly slouched or leaning a bit forward, as he rest his arm with his pipe in his hand, and his other hand is cupping his knee. One of his legs extends foreward and the other is bent. He is barefoot, showing he is connected to the earth. He just seems to be more concerned about what is going on about himself and what's in his mind, than anything else.
Belladonna is standing in the light, while Bungo sits in the shade, or dark indicating opposites
There are 2 mushrooms at the base of the rock beside Bungo feet.
My take is that there isn't too much love going on in this image. Bungo isn't looking at Belladonna, and she isn't looking at him. Maybe the heart neckless was not given to her by Bungo, someelse maybe, maybe there is someone behind the tree that she admires and loves, (Gandalf). Bungo seem to be in a state where he is thinking of something else other than her, contemplating, deciding. well what ever it is he is pleased about it.
