Tarocchi Celtici Card 46 Nocciolo: Coll

Card 46 Nocciolo Coll = Hazel
In this card the high flying Salmon of Wisdom of Celtic myth, that we see in all the 4 Hazel cards, is suspended in mid Air in the upper 3rd of the image.
So immediately we know, what this card is all about:
Imbibing the sacred Hazelnuts, what will we learn?
About the World?
About everyone and everything in it?
About the Spirits that have – and will be there forever?
But – since this is a 10 of Fire – Most importantly about ourselves.

Again the Hazelnut Tree and its leaves and fruit are in the centre of the image.
We have 2 Fire Sprites.
One is sitting atop a leave, holding a piece of greenery that supports a simple torque.
Yes, when you KNOW, you are bound to that knowledge, you have to wear it and can not “un- know “ it.
Realizing that, her hair stands on end! We all know, what that situation feels like.
This Being also looks over to her companion, a concerned expression om her face.
Her companion is sitting in the foreground, hugging her knees, head leaning onto her arms, sad resigned face turned towards us.
At her feet we see a magnificent Celtic mirror – much like the ones found in graves of Celtic ladies of high rank. The curvilinear spiralling design on its back tells us much of what we will see, when we dare to look into it – Nothing is straight forward and all is connected to everything else.

The Fairy no doubt has looked into that mirror, seen herself, her beauty, but – since this is a magical mirror and she ate of the magical hazelnuts who's shells are laying on the mirror, she also has seen her shadows, her ugliness her weaknesses and the dark shadows of all the world she lives in.
She mourns the loss of her “innocent oblivion. Now she knows. Mourning however is the first step. Then comes denial
then bargaining, then finally acceptance and after that the push to move on, grow and thrive with and on the expanded consciousness.
I feel, that that is, what the 10 of Fire = the 2nd card of Hazel Wisdom is all about.

The Iron age mirror shown on this card is a very good rendition of yet another Anglo Saxon grave good found in Desborough in Midlands UK.
Complex geometrical designs like this one were created with the aid of a circle tool, then engraved or carved out and inlaid.

Medicinal properties:
To clear a stubborn cough, finely powder the nuts and mix with water and honey.
The leaves can be used in teas to treat such ailments as varicose veins, circulatory problems, fevers, diarrhea and excessive menstrual flow.
Hazelnuts are a good source of protein, vitamin E, calcium, magnesium, and potassium.

Magickal properties:
Wands made of this wood symbolize white magic and healing. Forked sticks are used to find water or buried treasure. If outside and in need of magical protection quickly draw a circle around yourself with a hazel branch. To enlist the aid of Plant Fairies, string Hazelnuts on a cord and hang up in your house or ritual room. Magically, hazel wood is used to gain knowledge, wisdom and poetic inspiration.

Hazel wood is excellent for making all purpose magical wands.

Weave Hazel twigs into a crown. Put this on your head and wish very hard. Your wish may come true!

Twigs of Hazel are placed in window frames to protect the house against lightning, and three pins of Hazel wood driven into your house will protect it from fire.

Hazelnuts

The Hazel encourages us to seek out information and inspiration in all things and emphasizes the value of the inquiring mind and of learning of all kinds. Just as the Hazel concentrates all its goodness and its continued existence in the kernel of its fruit, so we attain wisdom by reducing knowledge down to its purest form and passing it on down the ages.

Through meditating on the essence of wisdom, we will gain creative inspiration. Like the limbs of the Hazel, we must remain pliant in our approach to learning. Concentrated thought in an open mind can, like the Hazel, become a connection with the divine source of all things.

Hazel is said to teach the noble arts of learning, teaching, communication, and healing.
