Good material on the net?

Aure

I'm new here but have been getting to know the Thoth deck for a couple of years. I have the Ziegler's book 'Mirror of the Soul' but I have started to think that it might not be a very good manual.

Recently I printed out the manual Lady Shyra wrote that can be found at: http://www.tryskelion.com/preface.htm

Is it a good manual?

Any other material for a newbie to use? I've tried just working it out by myself as well but sometimes that is hard.

I use mostly the small swiss deck because the big one seems too big somehow. Some claim that the bigger deck shows the images more clearly etc. but that is not true! I took a look at my Swiss big Thoth deck printed in 1986 and compared it to the small one printed in 1996, the images in the smaller one were less blurred and the images were less cropped than in the big one.

Is Zeigler's book so bad really? Idem for Banzhaf and a whole host of other "O.K" authors? I think working with the deck can be performed at so many different levels. At it's most basic e.g., simply using a general knowledge of Tarot's Major Arcana and the specific Minor keywords? The deck can then be as complex as you wish to make it by building on that. I wouldn't worry overmuch about initial(!) too-simplistic understandings - We all have to start (even remain) somewhere? :)

Crowley's definitive Book of Thoth is available online. (do a search for threads here) As is a recently reviewed book by Duquett. Fwiw, I still prefer to curl up with the "real book", for the (repetitive!) purpose of understanding quite complex works? You might find reference material such as "Book 777" useful in (online) .PDF format for printing. Such might constitute the entire Thoth-ite's toolset - For mere mortals anyway? ;)

In the course of his works Crowley refers to such a vast and ranging slice of Western Mysticism, it might be difficult to specify other material you might find useful. To satisfy references in the above books the following links might be useful? And these are but two of MANY example web sites...

I've seen two or three other Thoth specific books. Have you tried www.overstock.com? They're low cost & shipping fees are $1.50 per book (cheap!).

just to let you know...i too printed this manual and, in my opinion, it really helped me with getting to know the thoth. the thoth has become my main reading deck although i read it more intuitively rather than going "by-the-book"...

there's another good link (that i forgot to save) if you take a look at the previous threads here...
