Politics forum

The idea of having a separate Politics forum was suggested in a Chat thread by Dark_angel.

It seems to me that having a separate Politics forum, and restricting political discussions to that forum, would enable those who wish to post in it to feel free to do so without offending anyone who wished to avoid such discussions.

Likewise, it would make it easy for those who wished to avoid it -- all they would have to do is avoid that forum.

If it were a subscriber-only forum, then that might act as a further incentive for non-subscribers to subscribe.

I hope I can post here, can I? I don't have a suggestion but I wholeheartedly agree with Lee.

A separate forum would be the answer. Too many people are getting upset about the political threads and its now effecting the way they are looking at the whole of Aeclectic. This is a great place to be - lets not forget that. But I really hate to see people getting that upset when it could so easily be avoided. Surely its an idea that is worth looking at, before more people leave? Politics has always been a touchy subject which is why I refuse to enter into conversation about it here.

I think it may also be worth considering that there are still people on here that have not subscribed yet, do we really want to put them off subscribing? Because you can be sure they will have heard about some of this upset.

I am not complaining, just trying to help

I agree. I think it is truly sad that something non tarot pushed members away..... I come here primarily for the Tarot insights, not the political discussions...... (Although I do love the Astrology!).

I would also suggest that political readings only be done in that forum.....

Either that, or put a moratorium on political threads for a while and see how morale is affected......

the idea is a good one to seemingly solve the problems with peoples political thoughts and emotions- but I ask- how often do we really talk about the stuff that it would need it's own little space....
I agree that something must be done to where we can sparr comfortably & to soften the blows that are being thrown around {on purpose or not}.....

.. just my opinion, but I don't really see how a separate forum for politics will help. the problem doesn't seem to be *where* the posts are, but what is said in them....

.. it is just as easy to not open a political post in Chat - as they are almost always titled to let a person know the content.

.. I think that the only solution is to not read them - and not get involved in them - unless you can separate the emotion and not let it affect the view of the entire board.

A few times I've opened them - and *completely* disagreed with certain posts.. and sometimes they are written by people I like and respect. .. But, I realized that people can't agree on everything.. and we have different friends that fill different needs.

I don't come here to dish politics - I come here to learn about tarot and fill a spiritual need.. so getting into it with someone over government just doesn't feel right in this environment... no matter how much i disagree... and trust me, i've REALLY had to refrain a few times...

we all know how much we can "take".... and we all know our own capacity to hold or not hold different comments against someone.. So, I think we all need to take responsiblity for ourselves when we choose to participate in a certain thread.. and not expect others to be responsible for our feelings once we enter...

I don't think I"ve ever posted in a politica thread... and this is why.

My opinion, for what its worth, is that a new forum will make no difference. All members have a choice as to what posts, threads, forums they participate in or even read. Whether you have a 'special' forum or not, people will still read them and get upset. Obviously if it was 'subscriber only' that may solve the problem, but could be a nightmare for the moderators.

Having a 'special' forum for political discussions may enocurage some to get on their soapboxes, which may incite even more bad feeling.

I dont tend to read political threads as that is not what I come here for. I dont really know why there is a need for them at all, although I do support freedom of speech etc. I just dont think this is the place for it in any great depth.

I have too many friends on this site and we all have something in common, tarot NOT politics. Lets keep it FUN .

I'm sorry, Lee, I don't think this is a solution. I think it would actually make it worse. If people feel they must start these threads here, Chat is quite adaquate for this, and what Chat is there for.

Another forum for Politics would create more work for Solandia and the moderators and would not promote the peacefull environment that is very precarious as it is. I would rather see another forum created for the comparitive studies or a Tarot of Prague Cafe club. That would be condusive to the purposes of this site!

I don't think it is a solution either, and feel that it would make it even worse.....

As it has been said here and in other threads on this topic, WE ALL HAVE a CHOICE what posts we explore in AT.

After reading MeeWah's excellent post in another thread, I've decided to change my mind. I no longer think there should be a separate Politics forum. I think Chat is sufficient as a forum in which to discuss anything non-divination-related. So I hereby withdraw my suggestion.
