Lo Scarabeo Cardstock

Hey All!

There was a thread awhile back (see link below) about Llewellyn's cardstock where I hesitated to throw Lo Scarabeo under the bus with equal measure, but I've changed my mind.

http://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?t=255655

A recent purchase of their Tarot Nefertari deck (978 8865 272312), which is premium priced ($45) with painfully thin cheap cardstock, has prompted this discussion. IMO, Lo Scarabeo's cardstock is well below minimum standards and for premium prices on their gold decks it is highway robbery. Lo Scarabeo needs to step up their cardstock.

Anybody else have thoughts or experiences with Lo Scarabeo's cardstock to share?

Sorry to hear about your experience!

Personally I'm quite fond of my two Lo Scarebo decks when it comes to cardstock. Golden Tarot of Klimt is thin but sturdy with a matte finish. It shuffles great. And the deck has a heaviness to it, which I like (literal heaviness, it's heavy in the hand). I like the cardstock of Tarot of The Thousand And One Nights a little less since it's more slippery, but it's still sturdy (even thicker than GTK) and nice to shuffle.

Llewellyn's cardstock is ridiculous though. Linestrider, Tarot of the Hidden Realm *ugh*: Way to ruin two pretty decks!

I just got the Mystical by LoS

I love the card stock. It isn't THICK, but it is sturdy. I am a big time shuffler.

But I am not familiar with all their decks and don't know if the card stock varies deck to deck.

I love their cardstock. (And I have the Nefertari and it's fine.) Llewellyn, on the other hand/ And with Schiffer you never know what you will get - some is good, some is fit only for emergency floor-covering.

This Nefertari I referenced above with ISBN # is junk, seriously. It's even cheaper than my Golden Universal, which is not great. My Secret Tarot 1998 is good quality.

Schiffer has the opposite problem in my opinion. This Bonefire is awkwardly thick/heavy.

My Golden Universal is fine, too. I have only ever had one issue with an LoS deck - two scratched cards - replaced instantly.

I'm very happy with all my LoS decks. They're not on the thick side but as I always say, I'm not a cardstock fiend ;-) and I like many kinds of cardstock. Thinner doesn't mean less usable, sturdy or beautiful.

Flexible, supple, smooth are the words that come to mind when I think of LoS cardstock.

I have so many LoS decks by now. All have good cardstock. My Nefertari is fine, too.

It appears there are at least 2 printings of the Nefertari Tarot...

Nefertari's Tarot (ISBN 9788865272312) printed in Italy?

https://www.abebooks.com/servlet/Boo...88865272312%26

and..

Nefertari Tarot (isbn 9783933939135) printed by Konigs Furt in Germany?

https://www.abebooks.com/97839339391...3933939135/plp

I own the one immediately above (Konigs Furt), the card stock is sublime. It has weight, heft, flexibility and may last as long as the pyramids.

There are several editions of the Nefertari. This one I tried was the revised 2nd edition printed in Italy dated 15 Apr 2013, ISBN # 9788865272312 and it was cheap junk. Thin as copy paper.

I actually like LS card stock. But I do like thin cards hehe. I find them more flexible than thin I guess. For me all my LS decks have stayed in really good shape despite being used a lot, Ceccoli Tarot comes to mind. The only thing I'd want to change is that I wish the cards were a little bit bigger, and maybe not so... Long?
