RWS: 12 >< 21 and Saturn's Glyph

By comparing XII The Hanged Man and XXI The World to
their le Tarot de Marseille archetypes and Saturn's Glyph,
we can see the 12 to 21 reverse symbolism employed:

Saturn
Planetary Glyph

le Tarot de Marseille
XII Le Pendu
and
XXI Le Monde

Colman Smith Tarot
XII The Hanged Man
and
XXI The World

In the case of le Tarot de Marseille, Le Pendu's crossed legs are
symbolic of the Saturn Glyph ~ and not a match when reversed
with the crossed legs seen on Le Monde's dancing figure.

The cards are not being exactly shown to match each other,
as is the case with Smith's The Hanged Man and The World.

Saturn's Glyph

Saturn's glyph has the same elements as Jupiter's but they are inverted.
The energies demand that one pass through the tests of material before
being allowed to enter the realm of the soul and higher consciousness.

The World represents that stage in development in which the soul
has triumphed over its experiences on Earth and has obtained
understanding of the Universal Law as it applies to terrestrial Life.

(12) Lamedh = Libra

If we were to follow the numeric letter attribution, using
the twelfth letter for the twelfth card, The Hanged Man
may be seen as signifying Libra, wherein Saturn is exalted.

In Libra we also see the Sun in Fall (descension), which is
illustrated by the Hanged Man's remarkable glowing aura.

The Libran is constantly at work trying to balance
the ideal with the real... revealing the struggle and
dualism of each human being.

Equinox

The Arabian names for the two main stars of Libra reveal
something of their reflection on the essence of balance:

Zuben Elginubi means "the price to be paid"

and

Zubenelschemali means "the price to be received"

The symbol for Libra appears to derive from the Egyptian
hieroglyphic Akhet, "the place of sunrise" ~ and may
also have symbolized the Autumnal Equinox.

The symbolism of Saturn's glyph also corresponds well to the Hanged Man.

from link: Saturn's glyph consists of a vertical crescent of the Moon
connected at its top end to the bottom of a cross ( + ) of the Soul.
The crescent hanging heavily from the cross of the soul represents
being burdened or crucified by the weight of material responsibilities.

Saturn's glyph eh? So, does that affect how one might interpret this card in a reading? I'm a bit of an atrologophobe... help me out here, what does knowing this do for me?

XII The Hanged Man

The number 12 is sometimes called the number of fruition
or the manifested universe. 12 is said to be the sign of
complete expression. Many great religions are allegorical
expressions of the universal Sun myth, seen in the 12
months of the year, etc.

In card 12 the initiate must hang upside down until they
accomplish the great work of Inner Regeneration. Unable to
"stand in the center" and dominate the zodiac, we instead
see a figure hanging by one foot. In the Tarot "completion"
is achieved by the time we get to the dancing figure in the
final card, XXI The World. Seen literally there as having
moved from 1-2 to 2-1.

Divinatory meaning: In spiritual matters: wisdom,
prophetic power. A pause in one's life, suspended
decisions. Self-surrender leads to the transformation
of the personality. Material temptation is conquered.
Theme: Sacrifice, initiation, and complete devotion.

A side note: Renaissance knights who got out of line
were sometimes hung up by one foot to cool them off,
a punishment called bafflement. The name for this
card in Italian is, L'Appeso, and in French, Le Pendu,
which translate not as "the hanged man" but as Hung.

* * *

Here we see the image of a seeker, completely devoted
in his quest for knowledge and truth. He is willingly submitting
to and undergoing an experience of physical surrender in order
to gain spiritual enlightenment. The inner joy he feels shines
forth, and his release from his ordeal is clearly in sight ~ in fact
he may no longer notice his peculiar condition at all.

But, you may also have to actively do some things yourself,
in order for other things to passively come about, like trying
different feelings in different ways until they all kind of fit
together. No one else can do this but you, and in fact you
began long ago to find your way on your own personal journey
of selfhood and identity.

But remember that The Hanged Man has never been alone,
from where he first began to his anticipated destination he has
known that his spiritual quest is connected to something universal,
and that this is only one stage on his progress toward something
that his trust reveals he already knows in his heart.

Thanks, Fulgour. That's a cool take on the Hanged Man. ( Now... what does all of this have to do with Saturn?)

Saturn in Libra

This link is to straight and inverted images of Lamedh:
http://www.apol.net/dightonrock/Lamed.GIF
Many people see a resemblance to XII The Hanged Man.

Lamedh corresponds with Libra and the exaltation of Saturn.
In other words, Saturn is "Up-Lifted" in Libra, symbolically
seen in the traditional illustrations of XII The Hanged Man.

It is also important to remember that the Sun is said to be
"In Fall" in the sign of Libra (opposite its Aries exaltation).
This is seen in the glowing halo around the figure's head.
