Identifying a mystery Tarot de Marseille deck
Near the bottom of the page at http://www.tarot.net.nz/pages/talk.htm#2, there is a scan of a Valet of Cups from a Tarot de Marseille deck. However, for the life of me, I can't seem to place which version/printing of the TdM it is? Any ideas. I'll probably kick myself for not knowing the answer. Thanks. |

I do not have access to either my decks nor my books at the moment, but it may be from the Marseille version designed in New Zealand, based on the Grimaud. |

jmd, Thanks for the information. Do you know the name of the creators/artists or the name of the edition? I'd be interested in looking up scans of the cards. |

I've sent Fern Mercier an e.mail for clear identification. If for some reason she is unsure, I'll look through various works I have, unless someone else identifies it first. |

Fern is unsure of the deck, but given some of the other images I have seen, it is not a Marseille deck. Neither the two Coins nor the two Cups bear any inscription as to provenance, and the Chariot (the only three other cards I have seen) has no initials, but bears some striking similarities to Swiss-style decks. I await some information further requested regarding the Hanged Man and have requested permission to add the images for communal investigation. I am certain others hereon will be able to identify the deck by its atypical (or typical to that style of deck) characteristics of its pips. |

The Hanged Man (to add to my earlier description) is tied by one foot, and the swords are Portuguese style (all straight). This now seems to suggest to me that the deck probably originates from either Spain or Portugal. I have attached an image of the 2 of Cups and Deniers for those who have the deck to make a better identification, and will add further images later. |
