I bought this deck by mistake .

I ordered a Marseille Grimaud from the TS Bookshop in Melbourne and this arrived. It had 'Grimaud' on the cellophane wrapping but the box is clearly labelled Tarot de Marseille Convos with AGMUller's name as publisher.

When I unpacked it I was surprised and wasn't sure that I liked it but I was so looking forward to the new deck and know that my very first reaction to the Marseille some years ago was dislike so I played with it for a while and picked up quite quickly on the deck's robust energy. The colours on the white are really vibrant. I did my first readig with it two weeks ago and that went really well.

There does seem to be some distortion of the faces and the legs compared with other decks but that becomes just a characteristic of the deck, not a disadvantage. The English titles take some getting used to but it's simply an adjustment. Some will find using this deck really challenging because it is a very different Marseille from the others.

But I have come to quite liking the deck. It is hard to get Marseille decks from shops in Melbourne and you generally have to order them in. Borders have some La Scarabeo and I got my first Marseille (the Conver) there. The Hadar and, the Fournier and the Heron Conver I have had to order from overseas.

Anyway, this deck has been a a surprise - an enjoyable one.

I just received this deck. I love it! It has a pleasing simplicity, and I like the color choices. I love the way the tips of the batons and swords connect to each other. I think this is my favorite Marseilles.

It's a very handsome deck and I like it very much!

Excellent quality, handles well and I love the rich, deep colors.

Glad to hear that others enjoy this one! I'll break it out perhaps for Sunday enjoyment...and I'm happy to hear it's a favorite for some....

Is a French link okay? Has nice scans:

I deleted my other links, as I noticed a repetition. The French link here should be direct to images than my other, first link to this page.

Those are nice scans on your link, Cerulean, thanks.

One thing I also like about this deck is that the artist kept very close to the Heron Conver deck. Even the color scheme is generally very close. So if one wants a "traditional" Marseille, this one certainly qualifies.

It's good to see others enjoying this deck as well.

I really like it now and use it quite a bit. It has a completely different feel from the Fournier and the colours really appeal to me too. With the reds, browns, golds and various greens it "feels' much more Australian, strange as that may sound.

I really love the colouring on this deck - that's one of the reasons why I bought it a couple of years ago. Like you though I find the stretching of the images a little distracting. It looks like the illustrations weren't drawn to fit this format of card. Otherwise, this would have been ideal for me. As it is, it's still a great deck and the back design is really lovely in its simplicity.

Question TdM by Otto Spalinger

Hi there,
How is your opinion about this deck? Can you recommend it or are there flaws or no-no's in it?

Do you mean the Convos?

Here is a thread: Tarot de Marseille Convos

A search on Convos will give you more.

I like it, it's cute & straightforward, despite the squashed figures (though they have a certain charm).

As there is an existing thread on this deck, I shall simply combine them for ease of reference...

I personally do not find this version of the deck very appealing, by the way - but acknowledge that it does contain some marvelous details.

Unhappy

Hi there,
Now this is pretty interesting: the print catalogue of AGMüller only states Tarot de Marseilles, Otto Spalinger and not Convos (if it had stated the latter, then the pumpkin face look of the cards would have sprung to my mind).
Thanks for combining the threads BTW.

I could kick my butt for not remembering which TdM it was I had bought in Avignon ages ago and forgot to take with me when I moved out from home.
