Hi,

I am new and have been bouncing around the forums... I saw this Tarot deck creation one and am wondering.... does anyone know where online I could get some copyright free line arts or drawings to color in - for tarot cards? I can't draw but I CAN color in lines. lol. Anything that might make nice cards would do for me to practice on...either more traditional tarot line drawings or maybe something simpler like a series of mandalas or angels or goddessess...whatever is free for me to practice on... :-)

Hi Sky,

I'm in the same boat even though I'm a designer/ Clairvoyant. I havn't drawn for years and I can't be bothered, I just want an easy life! don't we all.

Anyway getting to the point try Dover books but you can have a look on www.amazon.com as it's a little bit cheaper Dover books has got a website as well. + Try the pepin press.

The thing about copyright free books you can only use up to 10 pics per book + you have to get permission if you want to print the pics.

Also if you have a computer you can get a software package called Streamline by Adobe. You scan in a image and it converts it in to line art and you can play around with it. That's what I'm going to do.

It's taken me ages to do the research bit which I'm still doing but I've got my ideas still on brainstorming mode.

It will be worth it in the end.

Thanks Funky. That just sounds like too much work for me. While I am clairvoyant, I don't have much artisitic ability and not nearly enough patience to only get 10 pics per book. I'd have to go thru hundreds of books! Just not sure I am up to that. I do have a computer.. Oh oh oh .... a thought.... yikes! What about fractal images? I have a fractal program that I make some interesting fractals with.... I don't see many fractal decks...well any, I don't see any fractal types of decks....would that be just too out there for others to enjoy maybe?

Here are line drawings of all the RWS Majors that you can print out and colour or colour them using a paint program on your computer... They are really good quality so it should turn out well!

Thank you Kayne. I really appreciate the link. I did download and try out the fool card. Coloring the card in with my program did not work out as the colors bled right thru the lines and looked all messy.

Thanks very much anyway as at least now I know that method won't work well for me after all.

If you are using a program that allows you to work with layers, you could try using a color mask to get a layer that has just the outlines with a transparent background. And then create a new layer and slide it under the outline to do your coloring... that gives you a little bit of room to be messy.

I love those Dover books.

Arttoday.Com has some awesome line art and my membership there has been worth every penny. Eventually, I'd like to build a personal photo-collage deck from images I've collected there.

You know what would be really neat to do , if possible?
Print out the whole thing (all 22 cards together) as a poster and then color it in with markers as doodle art! I used to enjoy doodle art and actually complete whole posters. Before the internet and this site came along to take up all my free time that is. .

As a signed up member of the can't draw brigade (well at least not with my graphics package ) For windows drawing packages, I often use specialised TT Fonts to draw line-art entities, which I then paste in, color etc.

There are many free fonts or ones that specify exact terms of use, on the internet. As many will be aware these sometimes contain NOT ONLY letters but also ornamental borders, corners etc., which lend themselves well to this purpose when "enlarged" to 72pt, 96pt etc. - These normally come under the heading of "Dingbats"! I found some fonts for line art Egyptian Gods, which look great with textured outlines against a .jpg papyrus background. An instant Egyptian "book of the dead" look? There are all sorts of others: medieval gargolyes, celtic/anglo-saxon scrolls, tarot, alchemic and astrological symbols etc. etc. The list is endless.

P.S. Another thing I often used were photoshop compatible filters. These plugin (sic) to many different graphics packages and can be used to render line-art in all sorts of effects - glasses, jewels, GOLD(!) effects which would otherwise be very difficult to achieve "by hand". See:

Another trick is to take the original pattern and invert (swap) the black and white. Treat BOTH the original and the negative with different filters, e.g. superimpose colors over gold etc. For that medieval illuminated book style?
