There seem to be two 'classic' tarots, one by USG, one by Muller.
Although they are very similar there do appear to be diferences, especially in the colour.

Here are pics of both.

MM ~ Good observation, but that's not it. It didn't have the fine lines, it was just a rough Marseilles-type woodcut and the dominant color was brown. Mine came in a set with a book, but I've seen it sold by itself. I know someone out there must be familiar with it, it's just that it was a less-than-stellar Marseilles and has fallen by the wayside somehow...

This very contradiction was the subject of an intense waiting game for me a couple of months ago. I read that review of the Angel Tarot on Tarot Passeges and saw the lovely Art Nouveau-ish back scan pictured , but was confused when I saw scans elsewhere that pictured the horrid brown plaid back .

(Could there be anything worse than the blue plaid one ? Yes - the detritis brown! )

Meanwhile Fulgour purchased a copy and told me that his deck had the sad brown plaid. I was so disappointed. I bought a used copy online, and when it came it had the other backs ! The same ones as in the Tarot Passages review ! I escaped the fate of the brown plaid !

I don't know what happened or why, but I feel lucky.

Maybe all that is needed is a slight edit of the review to include the brown plaid possibility .

Hmmmm, the mystery deepens. I had always thought that that card back in the review was something else altogether that got in there by mistake. What must have happened is, Michele Jackson (the then site-owner) must have owned the art-nouveau-backed deck, and she used scans of her own deck for the review. At a certain point in my reviewing career I bought a scanner and began sending my own card scans along with my reviews, but this must have been before that.

Sorry for the confusion!

Strange . . .

I was looking at one posting in this thread and saw the Tarocco di Marsiglia Svizzero in the linked image but when I went back to the thread, it was gone! Heavens, either I'm losing my grip or else something odd is going on with the forum.

MM ~ Quoting myself here, but I remembered something, or THINK I remembered (please don't be a false memory...) - the book that came with it was by Kaplan. This was in 1972 or 73.

I'm off to google. If anyone finds anything meantime, please post!

MM ~ Thanks, Fulgour, I think that was it, but it did not come with the deck or the cover that you see it with now, the deck and the cover illustration were all in brown tones, possibly based on Burdel, that has since disappeared and I don't even see images on the net! Here is another ISBN I am working on, possibly an earlier edition, brown Marseilles intact:
0913866172
I've yet to find an image...

From the inside page that also has copyright, etc:
0-913886-05-9 Hard Cover
0-913866-17-2 Soft Cover
o-013866-55-5 Gift Set
I maybe should've entered the ISBN for "Soft Cover"
into the FetchBook search... you can give it a try!
