The Tarot-J. Maxwell
Another find at my recent trip to the local bookstore. Originally in the French it is translated by Ivor Powell , who also adds notes. First published in Great Britain in 1975 , I have a 1992 softback reprint. Joseph Maxwell (1858-1938) was a Scotsman who " at the turn of the century was drawn to examine spiritualistic phenomena, as both jurist and doctor his essay on the Villa carmen seances in Algiers is lapidary in form and magisterial in its conclusions." Most of the book seems to be written in this style so I think it will take me some time to get through it all and understand it. Any one know this book? It has been quite some years since I have read it, but must admit that, unlike many other people who have commented on it, actually enjoyed it... I would have to look at it again to make more detailed comments. |
