Works of Art Tarot

Hi All,

I am considering making a works of art tarot for personal use. I am not sure about the copywrite legalities to have it published. It would use famous (or almost) works of art as the card images. If anyone has any ideas on other paintings I would be happy to here them.

The Fool would be Bacchus & Aridane by Titan

High Priestess

For the High Priestess I would have the Da Vinci's Mona Lisa. I think her smile conveys the sense of mystery around this card.

The other image I had fro this card was White Buffalo Woman Legend by Unknown as i was hoping to incportate different styles of art to this project.

I once started a similar process using mostly pre-raphaelyte paintings. It helped me a lot with my tarot studies. I suppose if it is just for personal, non commercial use you will have no problems with copyrights.
Will you make a physical deck or a digital one? Anyway good luck with the creational journey, lets keep them comming!

Lots of fabulous possibilities in this concept! I've been thinking alot lately of a deck of cards my uncle once bought for me. They were a set of flash cards of famous art in US museums, The idea of making a deck from magic cards made me think of this deck and possibly finding a tarot hidden in it, but I have no idea where the cards are!

Anyway... I love the idea, I would highly recommend researching the symbols in each image in more detail, every still life from the Baroque period had several layers of meaning, some of which are quite naughty who would think a still life could be naughty, but I assure you they are... hmmm... must go take a look through some museum catalougs for you

Love and Light,

Ankou

Thanks, temperlyne. Centators in Greek mythology are great and wise teachers.

Lovers

I like the Botticelli (sp? grr...) for the lovers, something about the tug of war with the woman whos blinded by her helmet speaks to me in that one...

Jan Van Eyck's Arnolfini "Wedding" Portrait

But I've always loved this one because of the amount of symbols involved...
If you look closely you can even see the painters reflection in the mirror...

Love and Light,

Ankou
