The ultimate point I'm making here is, please don't anyone feel like you have to study before you pick up the cards, regardless of which deck or method you use. First pick up the cards and play with them, examine them, read with them. While you're doing that, by all means study history, symbology, etc. if you like. But reading about the cards isn't reading the cards; it's reading words. In the end it's just you and the cards, and you can study books until you turn blue, and you still won't be able to read the cards if you never pick up the deck and lay them out.
