The Witches Qabala inquiry

Does anyone know if 'The Witches Qabala' by Ellen Cannon Reed, is the same, but renamed, book as the OOP 'The Goddess and the Tree'? Has anyone read it (or either if they are different books)? If so, I would appreciate hearing your thoughts.

I have just acquired The Witches Tarot and book by the same name and am wondering if my use of the deck might not be helped by reading one of the books listed above.

Thanks!
weaver

Hard to know {{{{{{{{{{{{{{Wizzle}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}. Originally her book was published in two parts, then as a single volume. I've had mine for so long now that I don't know whether it has been renamed. Maybe contacting the publisher is the way to go!

"The Goddes and the Tree" has a new title...

Here's the listing for it on Amazon...the publishing
notes on the back of the title page show previous
copyrights to be 1985 and 1989; the 1997 edition
looks to be available and perhaps the most current.
Note also the statement that "The 1989 edition was
published as The Goddess and the Tree."

It's good to know that this book is still available, as
I had gotten the word that it was OOP. Whatever the
title it may be, I'm glad to know that my search for
this book will likely be more successful than previously
anticipated.

Not only was it published in two parts but by two different publishers!

The Witches Tarot is by Llewellyn ISBN 0-87542-668-9

The Witches Qabala is by Samuel Weiser, Inc ISBN 0-87728-880-1; It was originally titled the Goddess and the Tree.

Both books relate to her deck, and even explain the colored circle that appears in some of her cards. If you lay them out according to the Tree of Life you realize they are the spheres and all the cards connect to each other. That is not evident if all you have is the deck alone.

tarotbear,
Are you still talking about two seperate books,
when you say "published in two parts"?

I've been under the impression that one book
is The Witches Tarot, and it's often sold with
the deck; that's the one I just got. The Witches
Qabala
(formerly titled The Goddess and the Tree)
is yet another book, and one that many have said
to be a worthy addition to the study of the deck.
They are different, aren't they? That's been a
seed of concern, as references to "Book 1" and
"Book 2" have come up and added more confusion.

Please pardon me for being dense; I just want
to be sure that I'm seeking the correct text.

Thanks Logiatrix and everyone else who has contributed to this discussion! You have clarified (what was) my confusion! The books 'The Goddess and the Tree' and 'The Witches Qabala' are one and the same. The publishers simply changed the book's title during one of it's re-printings. This is what is often called Book 1. 'The Witches Tarot', which is the book that accompanies the Tarot deck by the same name is (oddly enough) referred to as Book 2.

Whew...

I love Forum members! This collective group possesses an inspirational amount of knowledge!

Many thanks,
weaver

BTW I have the deck and Book 2. I am thinking Book 1 might help me tackle the deck's learning curve. Any thoughts?

Book 1 and Book 2 cover different material, so having them both will give you a better understanding of the deck.

The Witches Tarot is concerned with Tarot and divination, and with the Paths on the Tree of Life; the Witches Qabala is concerned with Spheres on the Tree of Life.

Interestingly - which is more confusing - in the intro to The Witches Tarot, Reed herself gets mixed up! She refers the "the Goddess and the Tree" formerly known as "The Witches Qabala." !!!

Okay, why didn't that occur to me to try to do? Thank you Tarotbear!
