okay, so, my mom threw away my thoth tarot cards and i had to dig in the dumpster for them, i found them, untouched, but i could not find the instruction booklet. i went out and bought the book for it, but it is not helping much w/ spreads and such. i am not new w/ tarot, but i have not even used the thoth tarot seeing my mum threw everything away a few days after i had purchased it. if one of you guys could somehow help me out, i would be ever.so.thankful.

Hey Jez,

Bummer. But actually I don't know how useful that little booklet would be.

First off, the Aeclectic Thoth forum you're in right now is a phenomenal resource that Mom can't pitch on a whim. The Crowley Thoth is a beloved and much-studied deck that is supported across print and electronic media. You can find Crowley's Book of Thoth (and indeed many Tarot-related texts) free as an ebook at: http://www.tarot.org.il/Library/English.html

The text of the LWB is actually posted at http://www.rahoorkhuit.net/library/start.html divided into sections for each card along with corresponding the Book of Thoth entry.

If you are looking for a physical text (in addition to Crowley's own mindbending masterpiece), and you're not worried about another pillage and toss mission by Mom, I CANNOT recommend DuQuette's Understanding Aleister Crowley's Thoth Tarot highly enough. A fantastic overview of the cards, an explication of Crowley's oft-cryptic Book of Thoth and an inspiration for deeper study.

One of the most popular Crowley Tarot sites is Paul Hughes-Barlow's Supertarot which has attributions tables, meanings, thoery and chunky articles worth reading at leisure: http://www.supertarot.co.uk/ He even has a free online lesson plan available at: http://www.supertarot.co.uk/lessons/beg.htm

Hope some of this helps.

I just lent a friend, new to tarot, a book that's based on the Thoth deck. He looked up stuff on Crowley on the 'net and keeps saying things like, "Now that I'm a Satanist..." I need to tell him that all those Metal bands take, or at least present, a lot Crowley writings out of context. Never mind, off-topic.

The LWB that come w/ the deck (do you have the little or large deck? I have the little one) hasn't much in the way of spreads anyway - it just has the Destiny Spread - think that's what it is called. Doesn't matter, you can use any spread with the deck.

Also, Scion posted some great links.
