CAPITULO SECUNDO DE GELOSIA SECOND CHAPTER ABOUT JEALOUSY (Eyes)

1)GELOSIA un vero amor non po smarrire, 1) JEALOUSY cannot spoil a true love,
Ché s'uno amante va cum pura fede, Because if a lover goes with pure faithfulness,
Amor il premia al fin del suo servire. Love rewards him at the end of his service.

2)GELOSIA è dura cosa, ove esser vede 2) JEALOUSY is a hard thing, when it seeks
Commodo al concorrente nel amore: to be useful to the rival in love:
Chè al spesso supplicar segue merzede. Because often imploring grants mercy.

3)GELOSIA tristo rende un lieto core, 3) JEALOUSY makes sad a merry heart,
Ma spesso è causa ancor, dove ella sprona, But often its spurs are the reason
Condurre un che ami a virtuoso onore. That brings a lover to virtuous honour.

4)GELOSIA quando vien, non si propona 4) JEALOUSY, when it comes, it is better not to think
Contrastarli alcun mai, chè sforza ognuno: That you can fight it, because it wins everyone:
Ma el saper tollerarla è cosa bona. But it is good to be able to tolerate it.

5)GELOSIA ciascun cerca, e poi ciascuno 5) JEALOUSY is searched by everyone, then everyone
La fuge; e prima ognun voria sapere,        Wants to avoid it; before, everyone wants to know;
Poi di saper vorebbe esser digiuno. Then everyone wants to lack knowledge.

6)GELOSIA sempre non debbe volere 6) JEALOUSY must not always take the rival
Il concorrente per nimico; anzi esso, As an enemy; on the contrary, if he
Se vincer vol, dié pazienza avere. Wants to win, he must be patient.

7)GELOSIA se te gionge a veder presso 7) If JEALOUSY takes to see the thing that you love
A la cosa che tu ami el tuo rivale, Next to your rival, you think
Stimi che `l parli sempre a tuo interesso. That he is always talking in your interest.

8)GELOSIA ove si pone è si gran male, 8) JEALOUSY is so bad where it strikes,
Che medicina non se trova a lei;           That there is no cure for it;
E se troppo oltra va, cosa è mortale. If it grows too much, it is lethal.

9)GELOSIA non vien manco fra li Dei, 9) JEALOUSY is no less frequent among the Gods,
Che fra gli omini faccia; ecco Junone Then among people; look at Juno,
Del suo Jove gelosa a' casi rei! Jealous of her Jove in some guilty situations!

10)GELOSIA di certezza mai non pone 10) JEALOUSY never puts anyone on the road
Alcun in strada, e al ver non apre porte, to certainty, it does not open the doors of truth,
E tien fra speme e dubio le persone. It keeps people between hope and doubt.

11)GELOSIA d'Argo e de sue viste accorte 11) JEALOUSY never was sure of Argus and
Non fu secura mai, fin che nel piede Of his cunning eyes, until the footsteps
Con nome de Io non li for l'orme sporte. With the name of Io were given to it.

12)GELOSIA Turno re, promisso erede 12) JEALOUSY induced king Turnus, who was the heir
Del re Latino, indusse a mortal guerra: of king Latinus, to start a lethal war:
E morto fu, chè morte indi procede. And he was killed, because death proceeds of such things.

13)GELOSIA Juno dea piu volte in terra 13) JEALOUSY made Juno come to earth many times
Fece venir per varii amor di Jove, For various loves of Jove,
Chè mai non posa un cor che in sé la serra. Because whoever has it in the heart can never rest.

14)GELOSIA fe' Vulcano in forme nove 14) JEALOUSY made Vulcan change his shape
Pigliar Vener e Marte entro le rete, And catch Venus and Mars in his own net,
E il Sol ne fece manifeste prove. And the Sun made the proofs be manifest,

Con gli ecclipsi soi, segni e comete With its eclipses, signs and comets.

Thank you Marco ;-) But you are being shy. In fact Marco translated the chapter. I merely smoothed out the English.

It will be fun to go to tarotpedia.
