Tarot Box Contest
Tarot Box Contest. This contest will be for 4.75” X 6’ X 3.5 “Tarot Card Box of White Pine Wood with Rabbett-butt Corners. Pyrography on lid done by Agedog1. To win all you have to do is post to this thread (only once per 24 hours PLEASE) while the box is being finished. Pictures of the box will appear every 1 – 5 days (here at the starting thread) so you can view the progress. A random #quote will be chosen and given to Solandis for safekeeping at the beginning of the contest. The contest will end when the box is completed (completion is determined to be when the final varnish coat is dry). Most of my boxes take two to 5 weeks so you have plenty of time to post. You can post about anything, try to make it interesting. Check back here every couple of days to see how the box is coming along. The first pictures (2) is of the box (not assembled, not yet sanded). Note the nice tongue and groove on the inside of the box’s three sides. This box was made especially for me by the Arizona Specialty Woodcraft people. http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...1/P1010051.jpg http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...1/P1010052.jpg 3/8/006 Entry. Completed sketch (not happy with it) on lid last night, per usual I think it stinks. Larry says; "oh, your doing the STAR - didn't you say that was one of the hardest?" Larry; "Hey what deck is that from?" Possible picture tomorrow. 3/9/06 Entry. Worked on the box 6 hours last evening. Here is the latest picture -- http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...1/P1010053.jpg I love the postings - so cool, funny, informative. Keep up the great work. box still has a long way to go! 3/10/06 Entry (day 5). Last night I outlined the Hair, trees, bowls, some of the water in the river. This weekend I will endeavor to work on the box again. Monday 3/13/06 I will post a new picture on the progress. 3/13/06 Entry (day 9) This is a photo of the progress over the weekend. NOTE, I made and error in the face and now I have to redraw it. http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...1/P1010055.jpg 03/14/06 Entry (day 10). No progress yesterday on this box. How ever the Star Angel box was completed this morning and can be viewed over on the thread "Possible box Contest". This afternoon I will be working on "THE STAR" box and might have a picture for you tomorrow 3/15/06 Entry (day 11). Last night I put some grass details on the box and burned in part of the lake (lake and sky will take a minimum of 5 days). Still no head way on the face and hands am just going to have to wait till it comes to me how to redraw them. Photo's of the grass won't go over well as the grass has to be cut into the box and then burned, cut, burned, cut, burned - looks great in person but does not photograph well! 3/16/06 Entry (day12). Worked on the box last night and got really frustrated. Ask Larry "What do you think"? Larry "It looks good". NO picture today, maybe tomorrow or Saturday. Keep those Post coming they are marvelous! Will be working on the box today from noon till 2pm and then again tonight after dinner. 3/17/06 Entry (day 13). Worked on box last night and here's this morning's picture. http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...1/P1010062.jpg 3/20/06 Entry (day 16). Worked on the box this weekend, got the grass in and part of the sky. Went to take a picture this morning and the dog gone battery was DEAD! Am charging battery and will have a picture tomorrow. 3/21/06 Entry (day 17). Got picture for today. This represents 15 hours of work since last picture. http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...1/P1010063.jpg Reading your post everyday and the are absolutely GREAT! Keep them coming, remember the contest doesn't end until the box is completed and I still have a way to go. 3/22/06 Entry (day 18). Tonight I am going to do the face! I SWEAR. Picture tomorrow. Boy I hope I get that face right. Next it will be the hands (just as hard to do as the face). I apologize to everyone for my lousy photography - the box really looks better in person. Maybe the person who wins it can do better with the photography. NOTE: If you have made more than one entry in 24 hours you WILL NOT be disqualified, just try to keep your entries interesting. Larry happened by the kitchen table last night and said "looks good" (he was referring to the Star box). 3/23/06 Entry (day 19). Got the FACE and one of the hands Yipee! http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...1/P1010064.jpg 3/28/06 Entry (day 24). Sorry, was hit with a bug last Friday and all I managed to get done on the box was some shading. HOWEVER; I believe I will have the hands and water finished today or tomorrow. Once they are finished I will send a picture. That will be the LAST picture until the box is completed. Once the hands and water are completed the varnishing will begin (this takes approximately 4 days as I do 4 to 6 coats). Then the hardware will be put on the box and it will be ready to go to it's new home. The posts have been MAGNIFICENT, so GREAT in fact I have decided I will do another box contest later this year. 4/2/06 Entry (day 29). The burning was finished on Thursday - sorry NO PICTURE. Friday, Saturday, Today and Monday will be the varnishing days. Picture of top of the box will be here Tomorrow (Monday April 3rd). Tuesday the winner will be announced and a picture (link) will be put up here. Thank you all so much for making this a MOST ENJOYABLE experience for me. 4/3/06. Entry (day 30). O.K. GOSH I take horrible photo's. But here is the lid of the box with it's final coat. Tomorrow the full box will appear complete with hardware & the winner will be announced. Sorry about the photo folks I know it's awful http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...1/P1010067.jpg Really hope the new ower will take a better picture and post it here. Final Picture of the Star box http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...1/P1010070.jpg April 4th 2006, Final Entry. When the Tarot Box Contest (TBC) first started I e-mailed the AT administrator and gave her a quote number . This quote number would be the box winner. That being said, thanks to all of you for making my days brighter and better with your wonderful post. The post were so fabulous that sometime later this year I will run another Tarot Box Contest . Without further adieu ![]() The Winner is ------Elven------ ![]() The Box will be going halfway around the world to New South Wales Australia Congradulations Elven and if you are all wondering what number was choosen before the posting began, it was 333. __________________ Chere (Auntie Ree') Last edited by agedog1; 05-04-2006 at 05:38. |

Thank you, agedog1! This is a really wonderful and fun contest! Perhaps, as my pottery comes along, I'll try the same thing?! ![]() weaver __________________ "Discipline is remembering what it is you truly want." Leslie McEachern |
