Hand position in 10 of swords...

Rogan

Hey there, Everyone -

Just trying to jog my memory here... The position of the mans hand in the 10 of swords - I believe is a bhuddist hand position symbolising "Joy"...

Can anyone enlighten me further on this at all?

I think it just brings sooo much more to the card - More than the dark skies clearing in the background... It's almost as if he's managed to make the symbol just before dying - As if to say "Not all is lost..."

Rogan.

Hi Rogan- I take the hand to be the same as on the Heirophant- a blessing sign or at least what might be called the 'sign of esotericism' This indicates as above(first two fingers pointing upwards), two fingers palmwards 'as below'. The right hand is symbolicly called the 'Hand of power' As there are not three fingers upwards it does not signify the 'Trinity'. PLace says in his book it is a sign of Benediction and signifies forgiveness. I am not aware of
the Buddist symbol for Joy, but palm open and fingers and thumb touching is the Buddist wheel of law a preaching gesture I believe. ~Rosanne
