consistant style
I wanted to make this bigger, and word-ier. anway I suppose its overall the best thing to have a uniform deck right? and not have 10 cards done in ink, 4 done in oil, 20 in watercolor, 5 in pencils, 4 from the computer right? and also keep ones personal style super consitant. if you do photorealism, all cards should be as real as real can be, if you do pop-art style, same. am I right? |

Agree on consistant style. Remember the cards are meant to be viewed in groupings, not one at a time. A bunch of different styles would make the deck jarring and not appealing (to me anyway). __________________ Either the Darkness alters, or something in the sight Adjusts itself to Midnight, And Life steps almost straight. ~ Emily Dickinson |

If you search through the decks here at Aeclectic, you'll be able to spot the decks without a consistent focus or style. To my mind they're annoying, because they drag my attention to the artwork rather than what I'm trying to see... __________________ ^^^^the Ator Tarot^^^^ the International Icon Tarot .....and the Prairie Tarot ............................................................................ Creators Path Tarot...
Hi...I am an artist who's been working on a deack for a couple of years now and integrity is key to me in this process...I have been painting my Majors on 24"x36" canvass with acrylic paint...I've started the minors as 18"x24" pastel drawings and that workde but then I did the royals in pencil on colored illustration board 16"x20" and their lovely studies in them selves but I have prety much decided to redo them to make them more consistant... The 3 of swords is drawing...Strength is a Painting....it is an amazing experience and full of surprises..! __________________ "If I create from the heart, nearly everything works; if from the head, almost nothing." I'm putting down another vote for consistency. I bought one deck once that had different styles within the cards... to say the least I felt very dissapointed and took the deck back (luckily I could do that at the shop I bought it from!). Definatly pick your style and stick with it. I think sometimes you can get away with useing different mediums, but as long as the style is consistent. Another thing which I think most people will agree that it sucks, is when the majors are beautiful, but the minors look rushed or are of a different feel than the majors. Put as much effort into the minors as the majors! |

That's really good work, it seems to be what you do best-(not much of a 'furry' fan, myself!)- it would be really interesting to see a tarot with realistic dinosaurs, and you're certainly talented! Please tell me you're going to at least study Tarot and surround yourself with few decks first! Blessings, Em x __________________ "Emily Carding is mad-woman-visionary-artist of the first order. You know, you should pick a card, then make one version with realistic dinosaurs and one version the other way. Post both and see where the comments lean towards most. __________________ You can give a cat a fish, and he'll eat for a day. I have a friend who is studying graphic design, and he gave me some really useful advice before I started my deck. Basically, he said in sets of drawings/cards/illustrations, to make them match there must be at least one consistent thing throughout -be it colour of the sky, a symbol or whatever. This ensures that there is a flow, and that the finished whatevers look like they belong to the same set, but also means you can be quite experimental with other elements? I like your dinosaurs I'm a big fan of the (I think it was) ink drawn one, impressed that you can use photoshop AND draw etc! Hats off!
