Wink casting via the old path

There are two ways of casting

You can hold all of the runes if your clasped hands and drop them onto a cloth or you could pick out a certain number such as nine and hold them in your clasped hands before dropping them onto a cloth.
Either way the runes that fall face up are the most important ones to you at this time and the ones that fall face down indicate future events.

Blessings

I think one of the traditional methods is to cast all runes and discard those that fall face down. However, very little evidence remains of how runes were traditionally cast. I have also read that runes were cut from staves of wood and cast but bones were also used.

The way I read is to put my hand inside the rune bag. Have a good rummage whilst asking my question. Grab a handful (in my case, three or four runes) and I throw them near my feet.

The runes that fall face down are something unseen at this time by the querent or somehow blocked.

added to say:

I think it is a mistake to restrain runes by placing them in a spread because one should read the shape of the runes, take note of their positions to each other and whether they touch etc Runes are organic and should be read as such.

Yes i have read several theories on this, though i guess it could depend on the type of reading that you where giving. For instance if the querent just wanted some insight in to the here and now and maybe the near future then reading the runes that fall face up would be enough. However if the querent wanted some insight into the long term future then reading the runes that have fallen face down could prove beneficial also. Its which ever method works best for you. Working with the runes like the tarot are a continual learning experience.

Blessings

Which is why this is ony ONE rune cast studied by the Rune Study Group of so long ago. You'd want to look at them all (provided in the table of contents for the Rune Study Group). The organic full (or all) rune cast is included.
