Gypsy! Vandenborre! Mystery!
I thought we might open a "side-discussion" here in the History Forum on a very unusual edition... See: Mysterious Vandenborre Tarot Kaarten c.1850 Aeclectic "Tarot Decks" Forum http://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?t=68120 |

I thought about that deck more today as well. I wondered is it actually a deck from 1850...and what are the origins of it? __________________ Gayla Seeking Truth, Clarity and Understanding |

I'm glad I found this thread. (It must be my Gypsy blood )I feel it is a mystery in that I haven't been able to find one d--n thing about this deck. It isn't auctioned or sold anywhere that I can tell so... perhaps I'm just too nosy in hoping to find a little more about it. I appreciate having it here in my hands even though I do find some of the images a little disconcerting. Rainbow |

They also have an Austrian and Bavarian animal deck that are similar. But I haven't seen it for sale either - I wish they would reprint one of these decks, I'd love one. I think you are lucky Rainbow Aurora

Gayla! It's a fair enough question to ask,and we are rather "informal" here on the History Forum. |

The link is great and yes, these are my cards. They are a re-print of course and I don’t know where on earth anyone can get them today, but yes, I am a lucky girl ![]() Rainbow |

Just curious- I believe the name 'Gypsy' is a corruption of the word 'Egyptian'- also 'Bohemian' refers to Gypsy. If this is so- then Court de Geblin, Alliette(Etteilla), Encauss (Papus) and even somewhat, Levi, sought to prove their ideas that Tarot origin was Egypt; even those that thought that Tarot came from India, got it right by default as that is where the Gypsies actually came from. The romance of Tarot and its imputed history is a strange field of speculation and dreams, and I think we all wonder at its origins- and why not?~Rosanne __________________ How happy is he born and taught, That serveth not another's will; Whose armour is his honest thought, And simple truth his utmost skill!
