Cancer or other diseases?
Can anyone tell me if they notice any specific card showing up to tell of specific illnesses or diseases for a person, such as cancer? I realize that no-one should use the tarot to determine an illness as such, but I'm just wondering how you can tell? I ask this for two reasons---(1) I can remember having tarot readers tell me of illnesses I would get/or currently had as well as for people who showed up in my reading as well. (2) I'd love to be able to do the same, but can't figure out how it is done. It could be those readers were a bit psychic, but I don't think so. I think to them certain cards did describe certain illnesses/accidents. Anyone out there have any ideas? EDIT: I picked to ask this on the Rider Waite section because most of my decks are R.W. based. |

I would say that you can't tell, not unless you are a 'psychic' reader and even then, I don't think that any good reader would tell someone that they had an illness, especially a worrying or life threatening illness like cancer. Tarot readings should be about empowerment, not frightening folk. And if the reading is for yourself and you think you may be ill then please, go to a doctor and don't bother trying to predict or find out about your illness through a set of cards. Here's a thread about cards representing illnesses: http://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?t=67572 __________________ 'Be excellent to each other' - Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. Thanks Sulis for your answer & the link. I do not have anything that I want to diagnose w/the cards--(cancer or any other type of illness), and as I stated in my original post, would never think of trying to diagnose myself or anyone else with a disease/illness using tarot. I was only wondering, because I can remember readings where the reader would 'see' an illness/health problem and it would come to pass. I was wondering how they do that--and yes, if cards can represent certain illnesses, I would want to know what they were---just like certain cards represent certain careers, and can distinguish between blue eyed people and brown eyed people. Tarot never ceases to amaze me with what you can tell about a person or situation, but, yes, you are correct that you should never "tell someone that they had an illness, especially a worrying or life threatening illness like cancer". I was only being inquisitive. Thanks for your help. EDIT: Sulis, again many thanks for referring me to the previous posts on this same issue. I found it quite interesting. Again, I'm not trying to diagnose anyone, I was only wondering what others saw for health issues w/the cards. Your link did provide me with some good answers to my question. Thankyou celtic Noodle for starting this as i was curious myself... Only coz I have an appointment with specialists to determine if i have the big C very very soon...and obviously have been worrying, I doubt it is overly serious as they more than likely would have whisked me in earlier...But it has crossed my mind to do a reading but have been reluctant esp for this type of thing... Guides have said i will be fine, so i think i will trust them... i may just do a reading after all, "Maybe" LOL!! Chicken

1) There is a reason most good readers do not answer questions regarding illness, or finances, or legal issues. It's not ethical. 2) Often, unethical readers will use demographics, or actuarial knowledge in readings (if I smell that you smoke, and are female, and over the age of 40 I can predict that within the next few years you’ll have serious health issues…like duh…). 3) you really don’t wanna do this. That said - there have been times that I've directed folks to head off to the doctor - and ended up being correct - however it had nothing to do with Tarot, but vision of a kinda sorta psychic type (I guess). I've also directed folks to head off to the doctor based on vision of a psychic type and turned out to be very wrong. Thank my stars... Last edited by Umbrae; 04-01-2007 at 14:44. |

Anytime one consults the tarot, I believe the reader has to be very careful as to how the messages of the reading are delivered. Just as the receiver also has to be very careful as to how they receive the messages and be aware that they should not base how they will carry on soley on the reading. I just did a reading for my best friend regarding the New Year. Looked a bit grim with family health issues all around her. Her husband has been ill, (currently under drs. care), but then her son came home from college & became ill---went to the drs. and it was quite serious. So, both will be getting treated this year, and hopefully cured. This is kind of what started me wondering on how to see specific illnesses. Even if I did see a 'specific' illness, I believe I would only urge the client to see a dr. and not tell them of what I saw, (because I'm not a doctor), except to say I see a health issue. very similar to how Breezes urged her friend to the drs. on her 'feelings' & how I told my friend of what I saw in her New Year's reading. thanks to all for their posts and advice. Seeing illnesses in people, what where how advanced is a "power" / "curse" in my family. My great grandmother was a shaman, both my grandmothers were and it drove me to earn a medical degree as soon as I was old enough to squeeze into nursing school and later medical school. But it is ROUGH!!! First nobody believes you, only if you are right again and again they get curious ..... It is not something I wish on anybody because you have to live with what you see -- and often -since nobody asked you for information, keep your mouth SHUT. And then there are the times when you can help - once you got legitimacy in the health care field. Today I often get clients that either are diagnosed with cancer or in treatment and want to know if there are still residual C cells or/ and if they need more chemo.... When I "see" it, in a full theta trance, it, cancer shows up as a bluish purple lesion - infections are dark read..... Then I write a letter for the local physician and THEY take care of it..... They know me and sometimes send a patient out to see me. And then there are the new physicians setteling in town that never saw a shaman.... and it all starts over again.... It has nothing to do with Tarot or reading the cards. If I should "see" illness during a tarot or other card reading I send them into town to get checked out if that is nessesary. |

Mi-shell, that is an interesting post. I am sure being a shaman is an extremely heavy responsibility. I cannot recall ever meeting a shaman before, though I do know some healers. Is this the same thing? The healers I know fascinate me because I can see it really working & have also experienced 'healings' from them. I look forward to reading more posts from you---by chance can you explain the difference between being a shaman and a healer? sorry to show my ignorance. |

Hi celticnoodle! What a funny name! Well, let me try to make some sense in that.... Everyone has some intrinsic carpacity to heal self and even others. As a healer - on top of that I have a medical background as an RN and a Jungian Analyst. I also work with herbs.... Shaman is a Tunguse = Siberian word for someone who has a natural mostly hereditary aptitude to enter deep Theta trance states and while there "see" problems, the solutions to them and or illnesses or --- what our moose is doing right now in the bush.... Sometimes I also see just " space junk" = stuff that is floating around but has nothing to do with me or others in my life.... Then coming back to every day conciousness the big trick /gift is to bring the visions across = remember them and not letting them disolve like dreams. The other thing is to be able to do that at will and with control = it does not help if I go into a full trance when I have 26 people sitting on my carpet waiting that the Medicine Bundle Teaching Circle gets started...... You need parameters.... I claim the word shaman for what I do because it is a Siberian word and that is my culture.the word Medicine Woman here in Canada may imply a Native American heritage. And also chanting and dancing with my drum or scrying with anything from crystal balls to stones or whatever is how I do it, how I can find out if you have Cancer or just a gallstone... or that you have been abused... or whatever... In the language of my people it is caled Kham. or booh depending on the language. Someone who heals with herbs and the like is called an Udega. A Kham sometimes sends a client to an Udega because she saw that the client needs a certain medicine. What I do as a shaman has not only to do with illnesses, but also who broke into Ghallegar's garage and stole 3 chainsaws last year.... and helping people return a "lemon" car " to the dealership and exchange it for a better one (nobody likes me in regalia + drum dancing around their used car lot and the press having a field day....) But I also teach in university and in schools and in my house. By the way I will have a circle about Tarot next month... Sometimes , when appropiate, I use the cards as a medium to "find+see" people. Then the Tarot immage becomes transparent and I see the person and the scene/ problem or I smell the booze or whatever.... But people that come to me always come to the (shaman) - for lack of a better word. It is not that I have clients coming for a normal tarot reading. But I may read WITH a terminaly ill mother of 3 small kids and use the archetypes in the cards to help her with the terror of knowing she will be gone bevore Easter.... I may give her a deck to take home, I usualy also give them several drums for the family to use. (I teach them how) whatever works.... Whatever tool someone responds to. Often Oracle cards are better for that than Tarot..... And a little tip --for just YOU! The hands of the Healer are attached to your wrists! M. |
