~~Crystals & Water~~

(Begun on another spot...moved~)

So~ I should start a new thread on this,
but since It has just come up tonight in a 5 hour phone conversation...

Tell me what you think/know/or? I love this idea, and I'm sure there are those among us who have knowledge of it.

I am told that you may take distilled water ( neg )
and place it in a bowl with your particular gem or crystal...
AND...
that if you allow the crystal to charge the
(ion deprived = distilled) water...on the night before the full
moon, you can count on the use of that water being extremely powerful.

This comes from someone w/years of experience w/crystals (not me)- I am interested because it sounds like
a feasible progression...

and he says that the wearing of this water (in vials? I guess) is
actually a completely different thing than the crystal itself.
A different attunement...

Having just gotten an amazing rainbow aquamarine , ocean coloured (beautiful) crystal in trade fora bunch of deer and elk hide from this man, and having felt it's effects in tuning me in ( and energy...to the 10th power) I am inclined to believe this.

(aio running off to check on her favourite topaz crystal, and find her moon calender...)

Any thoughts?

(look out Topaz Spider Cliff...water treatment begins at dawn)

i only know that i have also heard this. but for some reason i am always hesitant to put my gems or crystals in water, i don't know why. so i don't have any personal experience with this.
hope someone here can help us!!

Certain stones can get seriously damaged by the contact with water...
Celestine can melt in water. Lapis Lazuli must not be immerged either, and must be dried well if it gets wet. And the same for Turchese (Torquise? sp?).
Malachite and Adularia (Moonstone, the original one, not Rainbow Moonstone) can be altered by warm water.

Also, the salt-like stone (Selenite...).

Luckily, I don't have many experiences in this sense...

Anyway, BE CAREFUL!!!

first of all, Pollux is pretty smart
some stones just don't take well to water at all. also some stones might actually be very bad for your health.
stones do release some small amounts of minerals into the water and while some, like iron, is good for you, some may be very dangerous.
so before trying it out - read up not only about the magickal properties of the stones but also on the chemicals.
same as with herbs really.
too often i hear things about how good a herb is for this or that when in fact it might be wonderful to use in a pouch or a dreampillow but very very bad to eat or drink.

Hi All Is One
I would consult a reputable crystal book on this. "Love is in the Earth" by Melody actually lists which minerals NOT to make into an "Elixir" which is what you will be doing when immersing a crystal in water. Some of them have an afinity for water, and I believe Aquamarine is one of these, being a variety of Beryl, which will not react adversely. However, Pollux and the others are correct, there are some that should NEVER be immersed, for various reasons. Halite is another one of these. It is salt, and will dissolve

The only Elixirs I know are made with Rose Quarts.
Immerged in water, one complete day of light (both sun and moon).

Never tried drinking the water anyway... I just watered my plants LOL

SHARE if you have some more!!! Or maybe start another thread? Well, no, after all that's why Alison started this!

Talking No No No Don't Drink the Water!

Gee- I am really glad this all came up in that phone conversation bcause I am learning about actual stones I wear a LOT and did not know my lapis lazuli rings or Turquoise rings were being damaged by washing hands ...etc ? Are they maybe sealed somehow?

This person was referring to the wearing of the water in vials or those blown glass or stoppered amulet things to infuse the water bourne qualities of the crystal into your life...NOT drinking the water and infusing the probably toxic or just odd metals or residues into your body! He meant catching and diffusing the power of what he considers extremely powerful (specific ones he works with) crystals by absorbing the energy into the water. No mention of using that method on stones or other items.

He was mainly speaking of the actual "crystal" formations- I'd be more precise if I knew more about it...stones, gems, etc, are another thing. He mostly works with the energy in the (here's a scientific term...)

jaggedy edge formed style of the varieties of "crystal"...rose quartz (I hear from local expert rock shop owner...all true crystals are "quartz"? ) and amethyst crystal, topaz...all of which I have large specimens I love...so I am going to try the water trip with the dark smoky topaz crystal, first, and as I do with bowls of colored water for adding specific forces and influences to rituals and readings, I plan to collect the waters in blown glass stoppered perfume bottles...I'm totally new to this and never heard of it...but when I asked him what he thought of my old rityual of gathering up the bay water (ocean is 2 blks away) when the full moon shone on it, keeping a dish of it out on my altar, and wearing it in various ways- he also went into great panic...assuming I was considering putting crystals in SALT water...no.

Distilled water makes sense...it never would have made sense to drop a treasured crystal in a salt water bath. (or drink it..unless I had good instructions and good reason... any specific uses of the drinking part? It appeals to me if it were spelled out...

(L's punning spell may need a tincture of arsenis to cure! Still zapping me...)

Several thoughts...

You've asked some interesting questions AIO...

First...
as Pollux and others pointed out there are a few crystals and gems that can be damaged in ANY type of water immersion. Any stone that is porous can be damaged... like lapis and turquoise.

Which brings up a second point...
your "expert" is incorrect in saying that all true "crystals" are quartz.
Topaz, for instance, is not a "quartz" though it is a member of the same mineral family (Silicates) as quartz. Selenite is a Gypsum crystal from the sulfate family... which, by the way, can be damaged by water. Another by the way--salt can also be found in crystal form (rock salt) and we all know what happens if you put rock salt in water

BUT... when most people refer to "crystals" they are generally speaking of some form of quartz, usually Rock Crystal (clear quartz) or one of the tinted varieties such as Smoky or Amethyst or Rose (which, by the way is normally NOT the nice pointy crystals we know and love, but tiny microscopic crystalline formations) or one of the other large number of tinted quartz crystals (another by the way-- the tints are caused by mineral impurities within the crystal)

Another point related to the first...
porous stones and even crystals can be damaged when worn while hands are washed. They can absorb the soap which over a long period can cause discoloration and deterioration of the stone or crystal.
Also many stones or crystals can be altered by body oils when worn against the skin. Some turquoise and lapis as well as other gem stones, but not all, are sealed to prevent this.

Lightbulb Thanks, Virgonian! Sagacious words~

I really am getting my subscription worth...hope you
all feel the same.

I think some common sense and some really basic ref books are always
a great idea, but seeking inspiration and wisdom from
those furthr along, or simple more studied and practised on a particular branch than you are is the BEST.

Thanks again oh ye of the twining dragon egg (*Merlin Deck-oop?)

and the lantern ... and the help.

I hope my rings are sealed...they show no worse for wear. (I am a bit anal and more than that on certain things...bone, etc.)

anyone with good advice on wholesale suppliers, or...I'm off to start a new spot here...if it is not appropriate...please- oh Moderator,

PLease, Kaz: of the Darkness Visible~

If the new thread don't fit...

please move or delete.

Thanks.
