White Eagle Medicine Wheel cards

I was just brousing through pictures and reviews of oracle decks and ran accross the White Eagle Medicine Wheel cards. I would love to learn a little more about them, and hear of any experiences any of you guys might have had with this deck ... including where to purchase it.

white eagle

hi jewel--

the white eagle is not only an oracle deck, but a method of initiation into a native american path of wisdom-- white eagle medicine.

the deck is divided into three levels.

the apprentice level are animal cards, 28 in all. each card has a bead 'shield' of the animal superimposed on a photo dealing with the animal.

the text on each animal gives keywords, a description of the card, a four line poem, the animal's medicine, and an interpretation of the card.

after the text on the animals, there is a section on how to use the animal cards.

the student level are grandfather and grandmother cards, 14 in all
each card has a picture of the object used by the grandfather/mother. for example, grandfather sundancer has a picture of an eagle whistle.

the text gives the tribe and gift, a description of the card, a four line poem, a brief background and an interpretation.

after this text, there is again a practical section.

the elder level has four totem cards. sweat lodge, drum, medicine wheel and totem pole. text same as the other two, including general rituals, setting up an altar, vision quest...

the text is written in such a way that you get the feel of sitting down with your teacher and listening to his words.

like i said, this is not only an oracle, but a way of life.

there's even raven medicine

Hi Ravenswing! thanks for the info, it agrees with what I have read in the reviews. Do you have and use this deck? What have your experiences with it been? does one need a Native American foundation to work with the deck? thanks for helping me out!

experiences...

yes, i've got it. i've only gone so far as the apprentice level, working with the animals. my experience with them has been very positive, much like the medicine cards but a bit deeper.

i've only used them within the context of the system. animals are used to find out the balances and imbalances within you. they are right on target.

at the moment, i don't feel prepared to progress to the student level, so i can't give you any more than this. this doesn't mean that you might not use the cards in a different way; i find this path one i can follow.

i don't think you need bring any native american background along with you. the book gives you the feeling of a student sitting down with his teacher.

i have a few different tapes--drumming, flute, etc-- that i play while doing my studies. i find this to be a help.

i hope this help
