"New" Forum - Browser Gremlins?
Mostly for Solandia: There appear to be a gremlin that has crept into the system (since the upgrade?). These mostly effect less common browsers. Normally, I start off going to www.tarot.com but, for Mozilla 1.1+ (Netscape 6+ ??), the usual "forum" link on the purple Aeclectic bar now just goes to a page with NO link images. On clicking the forum link, this displays an upgrade notice, but that then delivers you back to the same (minus the images) page when you try to go to the new forum. For Konqueror on linux (an IE5+ clone?) the DIRECT link to www.tarotforum.net works just fine. But trying to go in via www.tarot.com doesn't work, since there is NO purple Aeclectic Bar with the Forum links etc. at all. Sorry for the long-winded and (probably) bad description. But perhaps there ARE indeed some problems in handling of more obscure (though sometimes used! ) browser types/versions? It may prevent some (less persistent?) users from gaining access to the otherwise splendid forum ![]() HTH, Mac. Last edited by Macavity; 30-09-2002 at 22:37. |

Hi Macavity, I think the problems you were experiencing were more issues with browser caching and cookies. 1) The incorrect forum page at www.tarotforum.net was a temporary problem on the server, lasting a few hours. You were probably seeing a cached copy of the page with one browser but a current version with the other. 2) Clicking through any of Aeclectic Tarot's links to Tarot.com shows you their site surrounded by Aeclectic Tarot graphics. The first time you click through one of these links, a cookie is set by Tarot.com to show you the site with the Aeclectic Tarot graphics the next time you visit, regardless of if you go through my links or straight to www.tarot.com. From your description, it sounds like the cookie had been set in Netscape 6 but not Konqueror. Click through here and it should set it in that browser too, or just bookmark the link ![]() Hope this helps. ~ Solandia |

Belated, but appreciative thanks for the reply ![]() These problems were certainly in the areas you suggested or indeed some convolution thereof. Fwiw, a forced clear of the cache in e.g. Mozilla certainly righted *my* main access problem. Hmmm, It wouldn't be the first time I've made a change to a web page, pressed refresh in some browser and nothing (appeared to have) happened. Konqeror, which ISTR gives me the default option of rejecting cookies - often tempts me to do *exactly* that, so there's a message in there somewhere... Uhm "Probable user error" Maybe? LOL. Anyway "she'll be right" I strongly suspect! ![]() Best, Mac. |
