Of course, another deck may indeed be chosen - I am simply making the offer... if not chosen, I would hope it is not because some are perhaps 'scared' of such a foundation Tarot deck as the Marseille represents
Maybe it was a bad choice of words, but otherwise, I am inclined to agree that it is a wonderful opportunity to check it out.

What about deciding on any of three possibilities by creating a poll?

For any deck, there will be those amongst us who find something not to our taste - shape of cards; style of design; deviation from 'basic' tarot; etc.

In any case, I would have thought that first and foremost is the opportunity to be part of a TAROT deck that travels amongst us. The last deck is not one I would use (nor would I use it for any readings), but it was wonderful to participate in what makes this world so small - and our differences not as important as that we all share a common passion.

That's a great idea, JMD. Would you mind creating poll with links to the three decks so that we may see them? I don't know how to create a poll...

Hi all,
I think some people really misunderstood one of my previous post. I would like to try to explain better. Here are some of my ideas:
Have two separate threads devoted to this deck, a Log thread and a Journal thread. The Log thread would be the place where you post the day you get the deck and then again the day you send it on. This could be a thread that is available to everyone so everybody can follow the progress of the deck. It also helps keep everyone on schedule because everyone can see how the deck is progrssing. The person in charge of the project would need to step in only if the deck gets hung up. The project manager would be the one responsible for sending a reminder e-mail or any other tracking down that needs to be done. The first post in this thread could be the list of names in the order that the deck will be traveling. The project manager would also be in charge of maintaining this list. I think this could really reduce the amount of work placed on the project manager. Instead of filling up the managers e-mail with all of these messages of 'I got the deck today' and 'I sent the deck on today', it would just be in one simple thread. There are other reason why I think a log thread would be better than sending e-mails to the project manager and if anyone else thinks this might be a good idea we can discuss it more. The Journal thread would be the place where everyone would share their experiences with the deck. Some people are gifted writers and their stories are very elaborate and some people don't get into much detail but everyone should feel welcome to share whatever they feel comfortable with sharing, even if it is only one or two sentences. (Personally, I know I am not a good writer and I really don't like it very much. I'd much rather sit around a fireplace and have a good long chat with a nice cup of tea.)

The raffle at the end was a good idea last time. I really wasn't interested in having the deck for myself so I didn't participate but I think the ones who did enjoyed it. I would suggest that there be some control over the number of tickets an individual can purchase. It's no sure thing, but if someone pays for way more tickets than anyone else it can pretty well tip the scale in their favor. Someone who doesn't have that kind of money could feel rather hopeless at having any chance at all of winning the deck. (Yes, yes, I know, not very capitalistic of me is it? :-O) I would like to see everyone have an even shot at getting the deck if they want it.

As for an entry fee, I know there are people here who do not have a PayPal account. I don't know how many young people would be interested in participating in this but there would have to be a way for someone who is underage and doesn't have a credit card or for the people without a PayPal accounts to be able to join in. Personally, I would rather it be kept free if possible.

Gifts and postcards. I know it sounds good to say that it is optional but really, if you got a gift, wouldn't you feel like you should probably send it (or something else) on to the next person? What if you have already bought a gift for the person you are sending it on to and when the deck arrives there isn't a gift for you? Don't you think you might be a little disappointed? There have been some very successful gift exchanges and I'm not opposed to them. Obviously there is no way to stop someone from putting a gift in the box if that is what they want to do and I don't think the Tarot Police should be called in if someone does this. I just really think that the main focus should be on everyone staying on schedule. Buying gifts and sending postcards just gives people one or two more reasons to say why they need an extra day. "Oh, I know the perfect gift but I won't be able to go buy it until Saturday. I got the deck on Monday but if I just keep it for a little bit I can add in this really perfect gift that will be ever so lovely."

These are, as always, just some of my own personal thoughts and ideas. They are not intended to be argumentative in any way. They are just some things that crossed my mind. This project is going to be bigger than the last one just by the number of people involved so I think there needs to be lots of conversation and planning before it gets going. I think a poll would be a good idea:

Log thread OR e-mail project manager
Journal thread Yes OR No
Raffle Yes OR No
If Yes to Raffle, what price?
If Yes to Raffle, limit number of ticket an individual can buy Yes OR No?
If Yes to limit, what limit?
Entry fee Yes OR No
If Yes to entry fee, what price?
Does the type of deck matter to you Yes OR No
If type of deck matters, what type of deck would you prefer
Gift, Enourage OR Discourage
Postcard, Encourage OR Discourage
Any others?

I'm not certain if I will be participating this time around, I'll have to see what all the details are like, but I would like to see it be successful even if I decide not to be included.

Hi raeanne

I agree with the raffle idea. I think those who want a chance to have the deck on completion of the travels should have an even chance - money shouldnt be the decider on it. And I dont have paypal, and it was through the kindness of gregory, I even got to be part of the last draw.

As for sending the deck and getting it around the place, I think the last format was fine, and could be used again.

3 threads - 1)Sign-up 2) Tracking thread and 3)Journal thread.

Once Daizdy has posted the participants in order of delivery ...

All we have to do as a participant is: Prior to the decks arrival .....
Make sure the person who is sending it to you has your postal details.
PM the person we are sending it too - get their details for delivery.
PM Daizdy if there are any problems.

When the deck arrives.....
PM Daizdy on arrival of deck.
PM the person who sent it that it arrived -
Post in the journey thread to confirm decks arrival and departure.
Post in the Journal thread of the experience/reading etc.
Post the deck of in 5 days of receving it.
PM the person receiving the deck when it was sent to them and approximate arrival date.

The other details of gifts should be a choice the person makes who has the deck at the time.
I have a gift ready, and a box and shrink wrap. Its not heavy or expensive, but just something I'd like to put in for the next person.

If people know they are going to participate the minimum requirement is a permanent marker, packing box, fresh label, address of next person, and postage.

I will use whatever deck arrives, weather I know the deck or not ...

My preference would not be to have too many variables and choices - it may get bogged down - possibly there should be a cut off date for decisions and after that cement the idea and start the decks travels. Daizdy knows the pitfalls, and can fine tune this decks journey, its up to us to keep to the timetable. So whatever Daizdy decides at the end of the day is fine with me

This should be a fun and enjoyable, 'all inclusive journey' which is inviting to everyone to participate ... I hope you signup raeanne and come on this journey too!

Just another 20cents worth from this elf

Blessings Elven x

Raeanne, all the things you mentioned are very valid points and I'm very glad you've expressed your opinion, thank you!

I'm sure we all realize that we are individuals and our opinions vary greatly and I believe that we respect that they do. This is a community project and requires we put in our two cents worth. However, opinion is not decision. Will the project go according to popular opinion? It very well might, if that popular opinion is best for both the project's goal and accommodates the participants. I have to admit I have ideas of how I, myself would like it to go but know I know one or the other would be neglected so I set those ideas aside.

I think it's a very good suggestion to create a poll on the matters you listed. Compiling those opinions in an easy to read poll would most definitely help me know what to consider to reach a final decision on how the project will be conducted. Would you mind doing that? Excluding the opinions on the deck to be used because JMD has done that for us.

Hi Daizdy,
I don't think I have rights to start a poll so someone else will have to do that.

Yay! Another travelling deck! What a fantabulous idea.

I've gone and voted in the poll, but really, I'm happy with whatever deck we end up using. To me, it's the intent of the deck going around the world and stopping off in so many hands that matters, more so than the choice of deck itself.
