March 26, 2009 meeting
We had a small group. Sheri & her husband Bob came from Eastern Washington (Tri-cities?--a long drive), Umbrae came from 2 blocks away (there is a reason we meet at AP Barbara's), KarenQuilter from Bellingham, & SatinAngel. Decks shared were the Pen Tarot (new!), Tarocchi delle Orgini, & Tarocchi Universali, all majors only. The latter two are by Sergio Toppi, early Lo Scarabeo decks, long out of print. Umbrae brought a Thoth deck. This was a standard-sized one, with strong colors, and intact borders. He showed a Qabbalah tree-of-life spread with it. Much discussion ensued about the necessity of cutting off the borders for readings. It interferes with the reading to have the client see "Cruelty" or "Ruin" on a card when you're trying to interpret it in context of the question & the other cards. Not just this deck, but many others, can be improved for readings by trimming. They were unanimous in their non-use of the Celtic Cross spread. Most of the LWBs that come with the decks have it in their descriptions of how to use the cards for reading, but I have yet to meet a reader who uses it. Sheri likes to set her cards out in a horizontal line. She said that when she uses the Transparent Tarot, she reads each card, then gathers them all together. When layered, it's easy to show the client how the cards interact. Sheri, Umbrae & SatinAngel are all reading at a big psychic fair in Kent on Saturday. They said that there would be about 75 readers there. This prompted more discussion about reviewing decks. It seems that the makers of the Transparent Tarot haven't been sending out sample decks for review, maybe because the sales have been strong from the start. However, the supply of sample decks from all of the publishers has been dropping off lately, not just that one. Other topics, lest you think that we eat, drink & breathe tarot, included the virtues of electric pianos over stringed ones (they never need tuning!), baseball, the National Aquarium in Baltimore, & the sinful pleasure of ice cream (with whipped cream & chocolate syrup). K ETA: I left before WonderWoman arrived. Sorry I missed you. Last edited by karenquilter; 31-03-2009 at 06:13. |

Thank you SatinAngel for the invite. I live in Bremerton, which is quite a little drive from Lynnwood, but I would love an opportunity to join your guest list. I am hoping to learn lots, shouldn't be too hard since I don't know much. hehehe Oh boy. Anyway...Enjoy the spring weather everyone. |

Sheri and I will be having a meetup at SeaTac International Airport at 8:30am and meeting with the East Coast peeps at about 6:30pm. Umbrae will already be in route. If any of you that are not going to the NYRS want to meet, feel free to go ahead and meet up...otherwise...the last Thursday in May(?) is our next "official" meet. A question mark here as this is the Thursday before Memorial Day??? Let's chat about this one!? Umbrae...hopefully, you can let AP know that we are not expected to be there in any official capacity this month??? __________________ Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming -- WOW--What a Ride! |

I have to say being gone last month and missing the meeting, and this month everyone being in NY, has really made me feel gloom in not having my monthly dose of crazy Umbrae and our torts. Also not being able to see SA and her daughter! Soo I also hate to say this, but in May I won't be able to make it my mom is coming out from Ohio in the end of May to celebrate my birthday and some well needed ocean time..and than for the bad part.. in mid June I am moving out to Ohio for a year or maybe a little bit longer. I am going out to help take care of my sister since it is very doubtful she will be among us for very long. 22 years of epilepsy has really done the final toll on her, so mostly for my mom's sake and the state paying job to take care of my sister I am packing up my bags to head out. I am so glad that Sheri has given me a subscription and brought me to this forum and family, I know I will be back for visits in WA (since I am still with her son) and hopefully I can plan it so that I will in town when Sheri heads over for the meetings. So I just wanted to give everyone a heads up without just disappearing, I hate goodbyes because they are just so final, so all my love to the seattle group! I will return just to make sure Umbrae doesn't become to bored and comfortable >
