Learn as much as you can. The better you understand Qabalah, the better you will understand Crowley. But even a little knowledge of the Qabalah goes a long way.angus93 said:I have some knowledge on Qabalah, Its not excellent but I understand it so would that be a good start or should I read up more on it? Just encase my question was not understandable I meant I have studied on Qabalah before just not in depth, So would I be able to understand the writings?
When I first read Crowley's Book of Thoth back in the mid 80's, I hardly understood a word of it. Suddenly I was plunged into a world full of Yetziratic attributions, qabalistic planes, the sephiroth, and the tetragrammaton. It all went over my head but it sounded great and I really wanted to know what Crowley was going on about. So I went and bought myself a little book on Qabalah, and I do mean little. It was pathetic really, less than 80 pages long and didn't go into much detail at all. But it gave me just enough information to get started. I went back to the Book of Thoth and bingo, it actually made a bit of sense.
Since then I've been engaged in an ongoing process of increasing my knowledge and experience. This in turn has lead to a deeper appreciation and understanding of Crowley's writings. But it never bothered me that I couldn't always understand Crowley. It always served to spur me on. Reading Crowley was, and is, an adventure. Some might say an initiation.
And this was back before such handy little things like the internet, tarot forums, and useful guides by Lon Milo DuQuette. There's never been a better time to study Crowley than now.
