Only asking because I've been wanting to try scrying for a while but can't afford a crystal ball or anything like that (although if anyone knows of any cheap ones being sold in the North-West [Warrington area] I'd be very grateful...).

I've heard of many ways to do this with a bowl of water, and I feel that anything is fine. It's not so much the 'tools' you are using, but opening up your own third eye, annabubble. so, in answer to your above question, yes, you can use an ordinary bowl and just put some tap water in it. this may or may not work for you. if it does not, then try another bowl-maybe this time one that is dark inside and/or out. or try dropping oil in the water. however, don't give up the first time just because you didn't see anything. it can take some time to 'train' yourself to see things.

you can pretty much scry with anything, as was also noted here on this thread. you don't need to purchase a ball, but sometimes that is what helps individuals the most. besides, crystal balls have a sort of 'aura' around them that is mystical in itself. you can find balls that are very affordable too--and don't forget that a small size ball can also be used. I have two small ones, one that is the size of a shooter marble and then another one that is smaller yet. Both were quite cheap, really--cost me less then lunch out does! So, don't forget that a smaller one can also do the trick.

Maybe not strictly on topic of scrying with water but continuing the thought of scrying with anything and opening up your third eye - I find that it goes pretty well for me with just looking with my eyes closed. I mean I close my eyes, but don't "shut off", keep my eyes focused. At the beginning I look at the afterimages and when they fade I just keep looking into darkness. It's much easier for me than a surface of water or mirror, where I don't know - should I look at the surface? INTO it? Deeper? Or let my eyes wander? With my eyes closed I feel more immersed, surrounded, almost like I'm in the scene instead of just witnessing. So there's another thing to try *shrugs*

do you remember day dreaming?gazing at someone and imagining being with that one??we've been told to use whatever level of imagination is required to experience a result, then gradually withdraw the imagination part, takes time but will work.ENJOY!
