Book of Kaos - 6 Swords

shadowdancer

This card has a couple of extras to the norm we need to look at and perhaps try to fit into the bigger picture.

We do have a character in a wooden boat with their back to us. They seem to be huddled down on their haunches, a robe or gown as their attire, with hood up covering the back of their head. another person seems to be steering the boat. He is dressed in very ragged clothing, and has just one oar of sorts he is using. He is standing and has his face turned towards us. In the front of the boat is a small bundle of something, but we will not be privvy to what it is. The head of the boat seems to be a carved animal of sorts, and appears to be baying towards the (sun?) in the sky shown on the top right of the card.

The sea around this boat and cargo appears to be quite choppy. Strangely inthe distance we see what appears to be a flying carpet with one character on board. In the foreground we see what appears to be a rock. On top of the rock could be a heart or other body piece with 6 swords embedded. Are there also flames coming out from the centre of what is being pierced?

This card has a lot going on, so tying everything together could be complex, and could also depend on where it appears in a spread, context of the reading as well as surrounding cards.

In addition to the traditional RWS interpretation we have to look at the significance of the flying carpet. Is this showing that there is an quick / easy/ hassle free way out of the issue, if only people are willing to look closely to identify this is possible. Or is it saying in this case, the going will be hard for some time to come, but all that can be done is to weather the storm out, hard as it might be?

Certainly I see the swords as piercing a heart for some reason. This would indicate to me something has happened which has literally torn the heart from someone, but all is not quite lost. The fact I see there being flames coming out from this, would indicate to me somebody has had a life changing event which there is no going back to. The heart is being burned which confirms the permanency of the issue. The person steering the boat is aware of this, and is now doing their best to move away, but the going is incredibly tough - the waves are not going to make things easy for him. The fact the head of the boat is almost baying at the sun does indicate there may be something positive ahead - albeit that is going to be hard to understand or appreciate with present circumstances. Does he need to turn away and look ahead to truly focus instead of having his attention drawn to what is occuring on the rocks?

This card really does have a lot of emotion to it, but not something that is easy to really tell as a story without having a context to fall back on. You see the despair of the hooded figure. YOu also see the concern in the face of the boatsman, but what is going on with the flying carpet? As this aspect of the card is so small the features of the rider cannot be ascertained. He is too far in the distance. Was he involved in the same incident but has chosen a different method of escape? One that has taken him away a lot quicker and with less effort involved?

Some other views on this one will be definitely interesting to see.
