Cup ~ The Three of Pentacles

poivre

As you already know...I may be a bit slow  but
I've just noticed
the boy on the bench has his cup turned down towards
the two other people, in this card! :bugeyed:

I have always thought this was a card of co-operation but now
understand these two other people may be trying to impose
their ideas onto the boy on the bench. He inturn would have
faith in his own truths (being higher than them from standing
on the bench) and does not need any approval or help.

Just found the cup!

Do you see it as a cup in the boys hand or a tool for his work?

It is a mason's mallet - a common, round-headed implement used for carving in stone.

Ros - it took me a couple of years to figure this one out.

No problem...all in fun! :)

It's amazing how time goes by and all of a sudden you get
those moments...
"when the heck did this show up in the card!"

I think it is important to note at least the similarities between the tool & a goblet. Surely there is significance.

In a particular reading I'd pay close attention to a person's seeing this as a cup. In that case it would certainly be significant.

But, in terms of the objective iconography of the card and all it's meanings, it seems far fetched. IMHO, seeing the object as a cup doesn't help to understand this card's usual significance. In fact, it would confuse the issue greatly - especially when you get what the clear intention was for the artist.

Edited to add: Please feel free to contradict me on this as it's grounds for a good discussion.

Yup a mason's tool; It gives the impression that this person is taking a more hands on approach, making a more directed effort towards his work...implying growth of material and financial concerns through deliberately directed efforts...
